Dear Therapist,

I know it can be so hard to schedule in time for YOU. Spend one hour of your week over 6 weeks with a small community of other professional helpers who get the impact of your work. There are still a few spots left in my upcoming series Yoga for Therapists that begins the 1st week of February – choose between Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:30am.

I often get asked: How do you do the work that you do? I used to struggle to answer that question. It’s been a lot of trial and error… learning. There’s been many ups and downs in my career to find ways to support myself with this work. One thing has remained. Yoga & mindfulness practices have supported me along the way. This is why I offer Yoga for Therapists: A space for therapists to take care of their mind, body & soul.

Dear Therapist: You hold so much space for others. Allow me to hold space for you.

The next series begins the week of Feb.5th. Registration is open. Cost: $96.00. New registrants can use promo code: WINTER24 to get 10% off. Learn more & sign up: www.sageheartpsychotherapy.ca/yoga and follow us on Instagram for updates: .

Do you like to write and also struggle with anxiety? Meg Max, arts facilitator from Writers in Bloom and I are co-hosting a 5-week workshop in the New Year. You can learn more: https://www.writersinbloom.com/events/dear-anxiety

I've been working on this for a *whole year.*

I have anxiety, and honestly, I've always hated it. I've always felt that, unlike the other bats in my attic which feel like they're linked to my creativity and compassion, anxiety gives me NOTHING but strife.

Working with Julia from to put this offering together has given me a whole new perspective on my own experience of anxiety. It's made me feel more gentleness for myself when I'm struggling. It's also made me more aware of when other emotions, like excitement, might be masquerading as anxiety.

Julia is a therapist, an incredibly kind person, and a beautiful writer. She believes in the power of creativity and community, just like I do, and I'm so excited to be able to do something a little bit different with her by my side.

You can find all the info about Dear Anxiety on the Writers in Bloom website. DMs are always welcome.

Calling all therapists! I’m excited to offer this 6 week online yoga course that I’ve designed to support your unique needs. I’ve been dreaming up this offering since 2013 when I originally created a yoga program for mental health professionals during my yoga teacher training. I shared parts of this program with my previous colleagues at the time and the response was heartwarmingly positive. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Dear therapist, you hold so much space for others. Allow me, to hold space for you ❤️. I look forward to sharing this journey with you and some fellow therapists (I’ve decided on a max of 12 participants to support the creation of a cozy community).

Did you know? One of the cruelest parts of OCD is that the anxiety/worry tends to target what is most important to people. For example… Love your family? It might focus on harm being done to your loved ones.

Most people would do anything to protect the things they love the most. As is true for folks who suffer with OCD. The problem is that all those efforts to protect what matters most often leads to a lot of added distress… Time is lost to compulsions. Relationships become stressed. The distress grows over time leading to less space for joy.
OCD is a very misunderstood condition. At the heart it is a very real & debilitating mental health condition where people experience severe anxiety that can target a variety of things folks care deeply about.

The unfair thing? Although it is highly treatable, people often wait years to get access to adequate treatment that helps them to reclaim their lives in ways that helps them to recover.
If you or someone you know is suffering with symptoms of OCD know that help is out there - connect with . Let’s reduce the stigma by continuing the conversation this week and every week.

10/13/2023

In honour of , im posting here to build awareness about . OCD is an incredibly understood condition. Despite the fact that OCD causes individuals such distress and impacts lives in such devastating ways it is hard to get access to the right kind of treatment. In fact OCD is treatable and it is possible for folks who struggle with it to be able to live full meaningful lives when they get that access. The goal of is to build awareness in our communities about OCD so that we can help break the stigma around this disorder, educate others about the reality of OCD & connect people with the right supports. I see people regularly in my practice who suddenly have the relief of finally understanding what they have been struggling with for years & the road map for how to begin to break free from OCD’s grasp. Join me in learning about OCD and spreading awareness so we can shine a light on it!! After all OCD has a harder time surviving when we can recognize it.

06/08/2023

The path to recovery is often a winding one. When we are preparing to start doing some formal exposure & response prevention work in therapy we typically slow down to disentangle from the OCD fear by exploring what is driving it. This process involves being curious about the anxiety & understanding what is/are the core fear(s) driving the bus. This is often very eye opening for many of my clients. The “aha” moments that follow help to illuminate the path forward. This knowledge we carry with us as I guide people towards taking small or big steps towards doing things they fear in service of living a fuller life. For the record: OCD doesn’t like being called out like this BECAUSE it can’t be so sneaky when the jig is up. Oh OCD, we are onto you 🕵️‍♀️.
