April is Autism Awareness month
There are 2 more sleeps remaining until the big day. Trick or treaters will be out and about running around. It will be loud and of course everything looks different when its dark. To help ease your child's anxieties, I have included an article with tips on how to prepare your child with ASD about what is meant to be a fun experience that could turn into an overwhelming mess. Help set your child up for success this Halloween by incorporating these ideas into your evening,

The other scenario
What would you like for dinner?
6 yr old: I donât care
10 yr old: I donât know
Husband: I trust you
After dinner is made
6 and 10 yr old: I donât like this why canât you make something good?
Husband..... knows not to say anything đ
Is dinner time stressful? Do you have a picky eater who refuses to try any new foods? Are you tired of feeding your child the same foods over and over? Meal times can be difficult yet they do not have to be. Take your time to introduce new foods and do not expect your child to like it right away. It will take time, patience and understanding yet the more you pressure your child to eat certain foods, the more your child will refuse to eat them. Make small changes that will help to defeat the bigger challenges.
Happy Victoria long weekend. I hope that you had a happy and enjoyable one despite Saturdayâs storm.
I had to laugh at this meme as itâs true. There will be some feedback about this one as so many people are opposed to messing with their childrenâs âsafe foodsâ. My son will not eat any veggies and unless itâs a banana sandwiched between 2 slices of peanut buttered bread, he is not eating fruit either.
Like many kids with autism, vanilla seems to be the preferred flavour of everything from cookies, cakes and ice cream. My new tactic for getting my son to eat more protein is adding protein powder to muffins and cakes. I personally use and so far so good. The key is to not add too much. One scoop bet 12 muffins is enough.
What do you do to add veggies, fruits or other nutrients into your childâs food? Was it successful or not?
This article is important as self care is vital from r your mental health. It has some great ideas on how to help during these busy times. Taking a vacation is not always feasible. What ways do you think you could work into your routines or what ways do you you already use to distress?
While I do not post my own videos on tik tok, I do enjoy obtaining recipes and food hacks from it. B Dylan Hollis from Dylanâs kitchen has to be my new fave tic toker with his crazy videos recreating recipes from ages ago.
This particular recipe made me LOL as could you imagine trying to feed our kiddos (whom generally have a very limited stomach binding diet) a cake called ? The name alone does not sound appealing yet this recipe is from 1892 and quite honestly, Iâm so glad the evolution of constipation remedies has transpired .
Check out the video. What do you think? Is this a recipe you would like to try? I think Iâll leave it up to Dylan and trust his better judgement
Don't let the stigma regarding yours or the diagnosis of your child stop you or them from being you and being awesome! Everyone is unique and can achieve their dreams â€

Meet the new neighbour in our neighbourhood. This is Waldo and we found him. Itâs kind of hard not to as he is an 18 ft tall snowman!!! How can you miss him??? Lol. Canât wait to take the kids later to show him off.
From what I learned as a parent of a child who is a picky eater, patience is a virtue. I have also learned that we need to be rephrasing our wording from "IF" to "WHEN". By using the word "if", it suggests that your child is not going to eat the desired food and quite honestly, conversations then become power struggles. By using the word "when", it provides a more positive approach, sounds less like bribing and there is a better chance at sucessful eating.
Instead of saying "If you eat your carrots, then you can have more fries", try saying "When you eat your carrots you can have more fries".It gives your child a choice and lets them think they have the control whereas you are the one who has provided it for them.
Give it a try and let us know how it went. Already incorporate this technique into your mealtime routines? Give us your opinions.
This father's approach at feeding his picky eaters is brilliant. How would this technique fare in your house? How long do you think it would last before your kids said, "Enough with the sandwiches".
This Dadâs Trick for Getting Picky Kids to Eat Is Brilliant Let's just say he "retired" a little early...
