We are pleased to report that a book Robert Tombs wrote, with Michael Windover, and curated, designed and published, 'Ghost Stations: Amanda Dawn Christie, Thaddeus Holownia and Radio Canada International', will be exhibited in 'Die schönsten Schweizer Bücher 2023' (The Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2023) at Helmhaus Zürich from June 20 to 24, 2024.

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE: ANNONCE DES NOUVEAUX MEMBRES ET LAURÉAT.E.S DE L’ACADÉMIELORS D’UN GALA ZOOM LE 26 NOVEMBRE, 2022 La présentation des prix de l’Académie royale des arts du Canada s’est déroulée d’un gala par Zoom le 26 novembre, précédée d’une conférence d’honneur donnée par Roger Michel, fondateur et directeur général del’Institute for Digital Archaeology (IDA), portant sur les nombreuses applications de la reproduction numérique, dont les Elgin Marbles. Michel a été présenté par le Dr Alexy Karenowska, magnéticien oeuvrant avec un groupe derecherche établi à l’Université d’Oxford, et directeur de la technologie chez IDA. Les membres nouvellement intronisés sont : John Arnott (Ont.), design industriel ; Panya Clark Espinal (Ont.), arts visuels ; Gordon Monahan (Ont.), installation ; Mark Nisenholt (Ont.), illustration par ordinateur ; Alain Piroir(Qué.) (maître imprimeur) ; et Marina Roy (C.-B.) (peinture et vidéo). Les deux lauréates de la bourse CD Howe de l’Académie sont Micah Godbout, New Brunswick College of Craft & Design, Fredericton (N.-B), textiles, et Lucie Xiao, Sheridan College, Toronto (Ont.), design interactif. En 2022, trois personnes ont remporté les deux bourses d’étude de l’Académie,créées pour commémorer les idéaux, le travail et l’héritage des architectes de renom Arthur Erickson et Ernest Annau. Ces bourses sont offertes àdes étudiant.e.s canadien.ne.s sur le point de terminer une maîtrise en architecture. Pour la bourse de voyage d’étude Arthur Erickson remise cette année, le jury a choisi à l’unanimité Philippe Fournier, candidat à la maîtrise en architecture à la Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture, Université McGill. Il se propose de se rendre aux Pays-Bas pour étudier le besoin de formes plus denses de logements multifamiliaux, lesquels joueront un rôle critique dans la réponse à la croissance anticipée de la population canadienne. Le jury a été également unanime dans l’attribution d’une mention honorable à Sylvie Wang, de l’Université de Waterloo, pour son excellent projet consistant à étudier le vernaculaire urbain dans les villes chinoises. Pour l’attribution des bourses de voyage d’étude Ernest Annau, les écoles d’études supérieures en architecture sont choisies à tour de rôle. Les deux lauréats de cette année sont Sydney Allen, McEwen School of Architecture, Université Laurentienne, qui planifie un voyage d’étude en Islande ; et Fabio Lima, Faculté de l’aménagement, École d’architecture, Université de Montréal, qui prévoit le sien à Madère, un archipel composé de quatre îles au nord-ouest de la côte africaine. Pour conclure la soirée, Deborah Carruthers a présenté les deux gagnants institutionnels des médailles de l’Académie : Canadian Artists’ Representation/Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) et le Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels du Québec (RAAV), pour le remarquable travail accompli pour défendreles droits des artistes. April Britski, directrice générale nationale de CARFAC, a accepté au nom de son organisme, et Pierre Tessier, sculpteur, pour le RAAV.
PRESS RELEASE: THE RCA ANNOUNCES ITS NEW MEMBERS AND AWARDS AT NOVEMBER 26 ZOOM GALA The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts presented its 2022 awards at a Zoom gala on November 26, following a keynote lecture by Roger Michel, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Digital Archaeology, on the many applications of digital replication, including of the Elgin Marbles. Michel was introduced by Dr. Alexy Karenowska, a magnetician with a research group based at University of Oxford, and IDA’s Director of Technology. Newly-inducted RCA members are: John Arnott, ON, (industrial design); Panya Clark Espinal, ON (visual arts); Gordon Monahan, ON (installation); Mark Nisenholt, ON (computer illustration); Alain Piroir, QC (master printing); and Marina Roy, BC (painting and video).The RCA’s CD Howe Scholarship student winners are Micah Godbout, New Brunswick College of Craft & Design, Fredericton, NB (textiles) and Lucie Xiao, Sheridan College, Toronto, ON (interactive design). In 2022, the RCA has three winners of two travel study awards created to commemorate the ideals, work, and legacy of renowned Canadian architects Arthur Erickson and Ernest Annau. These awards are offered to outstanding Canadian students completing a masters degree program in architecture. For the Arthur Erickson Travel Study Scholarship, the jury unanimously selected Philippe Fournier, M. Arch. candidate at Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture, McGill University, for this year’s award. He proposed to travel o the Netherlands to study the need for denser forms of multi-family housing that will be critical to accommodate Canada’s projected population growth. The jury was also unanimous in awarding an Honorable Mention to Sylvie Wang, University of Waterloo School of Architecture, for her excellent proposal to study urban vernacular in Chinese cities. For the Ernest Annau Travel Study Scholarship, Canadian graduate schools of architecture are selected on a rotating basis. The two recipients of this year’s award are: Sydney Allen, McEwen School of Architecture, Laurentian University, who is planning a travel study trip to Iceland; and Fabio Lima, Faculté de l’aménagement, École d’architecture, Université de Montréal, who plans a travel study experience in Madeira, an archipelago comprising four islands off the northwest coast of Africa.
