Unifying in orange! U13BB (Akitt) Wildcats joined their peers on the Mississauga Hurricanes to promote the Orange Jersey Project 🧡
Earlier this month, our U13BB (Akitt) Wildcats joined their peers on the Mississauga Hurricanes to promote the Orange Jersey Project. This project encourages action for truth and reconciliation and reminds our athletic community of the history of the Indian Residential School system in Canada and the intergenerational impacts.
Wearing their orange jerseys, the teams acknowledged that they’re playing on the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, in particular, the territory and home of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, Ojibway/Chippewa and Métis peoples.
This was an important opportunity for both teams to pay their respects to the first inhabitants of the land. Thank you to the U13BB Mississauga Hurricanes for their suggestion to join each other in wearing orange jerseys.
