From May 26 to 31, 2024, the Human Rights Research and Education Centre and the Canadian Red Cross have hosted the 16th edition of the Summer School on International Humanitarian Law 2024!

It's been an exciting and intense week for our 49 participants!

2024 is the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. On May 27, we were graciously invited by Mr. Olaf Kjelsen, the Ambassador of 🇨🇭 in 🇨🇦, and his staff. We thank them again for their hospitality!

During the week, our participants had of sessions on different aspects of , such as combatant status, protection of detainees & protections of civilians, methods of warfare, command responsibility, as well as a session on ethics... All this important knowledge was put into practice on Simulation Day, where participants were invited to play different roles based on fictitious cases with judges from the Canadian Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Canadian Armed Forces!

On the last day, we had the opportunity to welcome Mr. Jamie McGoldrick online for a very interesting meeting. The afternoon was devoted to international criminal law with our colleagues from Department of Justice Canada.

Thank you again to our dedicated speakers and our participants for their motivation and interest during this intense week!

See you next year for the 17th edition!!!
