First Nations, Inuit and Métis have inherent rights to health and wellness in Canada, yet many experience poorer health outcomes compared to other people. These outcomes are the result of inequities in access to safe, high-quality care connected to the ongoing impacts of colonization and systemic racism. As a healthcare organization, we have a responsibility in improving cultural safety and addressing systemic racism.

Today's ceremonial apology from the Canadian Medical Association might be triggering for some people. Please know that support is available for anyone who may need it. 🧡
Why an apology matters The CMA’s apology for the harms of the health system to Indigenous peoples is an important step in Canada’s medical history.
