I still find bugs outside even though it's becoming colder and colder. I often wonder if they can sense winter coming. Are they getting prepared too?
•
•
I find this plant fascinating !
•
Wild carrot is used for urinary tract problems including kidney stones, bladder problems, water retention, and excess uric acid in the urine; and also for gout, a painful joint problem caused by too much uric acid. The seed oil is used for severe diarrhea (dysentery), indigestion, and intestinal gas.
•
Would you eat it ?

Did you know that wild grapes tastes best after the first frost?

The trees are about to show how beautiful it is to let go

I've been healing up from Covid this week. I had to embrace the thought of being okay not doing anything in the season where there is the most amount of things to do to prepare for winter. On top of it all, I got it from my partner which meant we were both sick, doing nothing at all.
•
It's definitely made me appreciate soup & bread on another level.
•
•
Wild carrots have some of the prettiest flowers
•
•
It's hunting season which means I slap an orange backpack on Keeda when we go out for out treks.
•
We sometimes wake up to the sound of gunshots being that we live out in the woods, it's normal this time of year.
•
•
I want to highlight this human and her strength !
You got this!!!

I'm looking at adding a few new novelty items to my Etsy shop!
Nerdy twilight things are on the list !
I have to ask this cringy question....
Are you team Jacob or Edward !?

Did you know that Weeping Willow is used for many things you might use in your household?
•
Willow is used to make furniture and crates even whistles! Some use it to make fish traps and dye to to tan leather.
The branches have long been used as paintbrushes, arrows and medicine
•
When chewed, the bark reduces fever and pain. It was known as the 'Toothache tree" by Native Americans. It was used as you would use over the counter meds today. In fact, the salicylic acid was isolated in 1736 and synthetized to create modern day Aspirin.

I've been having a harder time with rabbits than usual lately
•
In the summer, a litter kept dying unexpectedly. I had many suspects ; the soil (bacteria), the heat, overcrowding etc. Being removed too early ; stress
•
The rabbits I acquired this Winter don't have the same growth rate as my other rabbits. They have to grow much longer before being of acceptable size to process. The fact I was leaving for weeks didn't help their stress levels either.
•
The unexpected deaths have stopped but I'm still concerned about their health. I've been dreading the day I have to process the older litters, anxious I might find some bad news.
•
That day is this week however, so wish me luck !
•
Jon got the big "C' this week ; the panini ; the 'Vid ; the 'Rona.
•
It came out of nowhere one night. He was randomly hypothermic. Shaking uncontrollably : I shoved him in a hot shower for half an hour. His extremities were still cold to the touch. I discovered he had a fever of 102 (39 degrees), a heart rate of 134 per minute - which Jon joked about being in the fat burning zone. Eventually, Jon warmed up and we focused on making sure he was hydrated and comfortable.
•
The next morning, he took a test and the rest is history. His fever broke 48 hours later, his heart rate and breathing stabilized that night before. Jon lost his sense of taste for 24 hours
•
We're heading into day 4 ; I've had a negative test but my throat is scratchy. Hopefully we're out of the woods soon!
•
And all at once, summer collapsed in to fall
•
•
I was at best, 7 years old when my father introduced me to this plant.
•
"You can eat it" he said, with a smile.
Confused, I looked at him and at the plant again.
"I can?" I asked.
I watched him carefully remove the flower petals to place them in his mouth. With haste, I joined him and discovered the sweet taste of the white Clover petals.
•
Trifolium Repens - White Clover (Red Clover's cousin)
I came to find out later in life that both the petals and leaves were edible. It is high in protein. They taste the best when you see the petals lightly turning pink!
•
We take a lot of 'weeds' for granted. All plants have a purpose
•
•
To think its already been a year since I moved to a cottage by the lake. I remember thinking at the time that it was the worst possible timing. We were given 2 months to vacate as the landlord needed to move back in.
•
Sometimes, what looks like a series of unfortunate event is actually the universe given you the best possible outcome.
•
•
My garden this year has yielded so many tomatoes. 👀
This year is my first actual successful garden. The previous years never worked out for various reasons. I *kind* of went overboard with the tomatoes not gonna lie! However, I'm glad it worked out.
•
I already know what I want to do better next year! I need to seperate my squash from my main raised beds. I'd like to grow corn as well.
•
What was the most successful fruit or veggie in your garden this year? What will you change next year? 💬

One Emergency vet trip for Keeda 🦊
•
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious for today's trip at the vet. I'm unfortunately too aware of our short stay on Earth to disregard the fact my dog is 7 years old. She's elderly now meaning her time with me is limited. I always knew, in the back of my mind. Like all things, it was simply easier to forget.
•
It all started when I noticed Keeda's urine really stank. I have a sensitive nose and assumed I might be more sensitive to it. Then, Jon smelled it too. If you know Jon, you know he barely smells a thing. I took to google to find answers, naturally.
•
I could suspect that Keeda was experiencing a bladder infection, perhaps kidney failure. I called the vet which told me they were completely booked up for a solid 2 months for appointments and I would have to come as an emergency appointment, much like the emerge, at a hospital.
•
Thankfully, it was just a small bladder infections. Nothing that antibiotics couldn't clear. My piggy bank & her health can recover 💸
•
•
Can you guess the plant ?🌿 Psst. it's one of Ontario's most invasive plant !
•
If you guessed dog-strangling vine, well you were right! Also known as black swallowwort or pale swallowwort.
They are extremely invasive once they are established. In fact, I found this one by the side of the road, by the thousands. it's a perennial (meaning it grows back every year) in the milkweed family.
•
Apparently, there has been some sort of biological welfare released to control it in the form of special leaf feeding caterpillars ! (Hypena opulenta)
•
It affects even Monarch butterflies as they will sometimes lay their eggs in this vine. Their young won't be able to feed on the plant as it is not edible.
•
•
If it's costing you your happiness, it's costing to much
•
•
My favourite past time is exploring the woods with Keeda.
I often wonder if certain forests smell different to her.
Does she remember certain trees ?
•
•
I've been experiencing a l*l these past couple months.
•
You might have noticed I was more absent on social media.
I often find myself wishing I'd get more things done or have more creativity to accomplish more.
The truth is that I'm slowly but surely embracing the natural cycles within me.
I too, am like the seasons. I should honour those transitions and my body's need to slow down. When the time is right, I'll fall into another creative cycle.
•
Do you notice you work in cycles too? Share with me!

We don't all bloom or wither the same
Fires burn in different flames
Some burn bright and die young
Some taste honey without getting stung
Life is fair in its unfairness;
It's fair in the flowers blooming in Spring
and unfair in them withering in Fall.
It's unfair in the way some apples fall to the ground before the others, or how some leaves never change colours.
its fair in the fireflies lighting the night sky
and unfair some caterpillars never become butterflies.
Life is fair in its unfairness;
What is unfair is our awareness
Keeda turned 7 !! 🎉
I remember when I first saw her blue eyes and red fur. She was advertised on Kijij for a few hundred dollars.
•
Her past owners could no longer keep her due to her vagabond lifestyle. Keeda was a mischievous, cattle chasing adventure lover dog who could simply no longer be contained to the Farm's boundary. Escapades lasting days on end, they decided to re-home her. I would later come to find out that they had failed to mention she had also become aggressive with the other farm dogs at her mere 1 year of age.
•
After convincing myself I was fit to own yet another havoc-causing-husky, I hopped in my car for a 6 hour round trip adventure. Through her undeniable sassy personality, Keeda quickly became my best friend, my pal, my Keeds.
•
Happy Birthday Keeda! Enjoy your 7th circle around the sun!🌞

I like to fall in love with written stories yet I guard my heart from reading. I know that I will fall in love and once I read the last chapter, it will break my heart as I will never love it the same. My eyes will know the words to the story once it has seen them. No amount of re-reading can spark that same first-time love.
It's a dance between wanting to read and wanting to protect my heart from falling in love with the stories I read.
A battle of constant excitement and disapointement-its-over
As I read "nowhere for very long" by , I once again fall in love. I could have devoured the words put down in her book in one sitting. However, a ma*****st, I chose to break my heart slowly. Delving into her stories bit by bit, like one last meal.
I would lie if I said I finish all the books I read. There is a chaotic romance to never knowing the ending to some stories.

Moss is out there! Do you know how it grows?
Moss forms from spores that are carried by wind currents and moving water. In most cases moss spores can not form in areas where healthy plants are already growing.
For moss to grow on soil it needs excess moisture. This will cause grass to thin and die off, creating a space for moss to grow. Soil compaction also plays a role in where moss is present.
Moss on your lawn is not harmful! But it sheds light there is most likely a drainage problem!
Do you have moss growing on your property?

Last fall, I saw milkweeds drop their little seeds. It's March and I'm in full blown gardening mode.
I'm going to try to grow sunflower seeds this year.
Are you growing something new ? If so what is it ?
As a child, i'd always let my hands flow carelessly down the aisle at the supermarket. Letting my fingers feel and caress all the different textures that came their way.
I'd get scolded often by my mother who wouldn't miss a chance to warn me about germs
As an adult, I dropped that rule out. I can always wash my hands but I can't simulate texture in mind. I am still just as mesmerized by textures as when I was a child. I reach out and touch as many things as my creative mind feels the need.
It's a way to honour my inner child. How do you honour yours ?

In 2021, I was evicted from my home. I felt like I lost everything. I document the messy process of packing up everything I owned in flimsy boxes. I shed light on a new chapter and how when it feels like the world is crashing down on you, you may, perhaps be experiencing growth.
