WHY CHILDREN WON’T EAT Part II
According to Dr. Kay A. Toomey, the developer of the SOS*Approach to Feeding, “Eating is, in reality a learned behaviour. Just as children learn to eat, so can children be taught to NOT eat by the circumstances of their lives” (When Children Won’t Eat: Understanding the “Why’s and How to Help, by Kay A. Toomey, Ph.D.
The second step in understanding your child’s eating difficulties is for you, your child and the Feeding Therapist to figure out how they learned not to eat.
Using the principals of SOS your Sensational Living Feeding Therapist will assess the underlying causes of the child’s eating problems including: sensory, oral motor, behavioural, and medical factors. A medical history, sensory questionnaire and an eating evaluation or utilized in this assessment process.
