New on the blog! People in Sask volunteer. But how they volunteer has changed. Our researcher, Cat, took a look at how it's changed recently and the influence that's had on our heritage.
Cat writes: "Over the course of the summer I heard a common sentiment across multiple interviews and survey responses: volunteering to safeguarding heritage not only offered a deep sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, but was part of people’s identity."

Maha Abbas, a summer researcher with Heritage Sask looking at designations, writes about starting her work this summer, and how to understand heritage in Saskatchewan, she had to first reflect on her own heritage.
Maha says: "it became abundantly clear that in order to understand external attitudes and commitment for heritage conservation I needed to better understand why I thought heritage was valuable. To do so, I had to return to my roots."

Cat says: "Growing up in Yorkton allowed me to experience pieces of my ancestral heritage throughout my youth, even if I didn’t fully grasp the importance of participating in various aspects of tangible and intangible cultural heritage at that age."
