We received exciting news! The Surrey Child and Youth Transition Team will be expanding, adding 10 new staff to the team.

The Transition Team pilot project, launched in 2023 and funded fully by our donors, provides support to children and youth who are experiencing mental health challenges to make the transition from hospital care to community care services. Participation in the program has helped to reduce re-admission to the hospital.

The expanded team has also found a permanent home in the new youth mental health and addictions hub located in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood.

Art Therapy is a vital part of our youth mental health programs at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Stabilization Unit (CAPSU), the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (APU), and the Adolescent Day Treatment Program (ADTP) 🎨

In Art Therapy, patients are given choices throughout the creative process which allows them to strengthen their self-esteem and resourcefulness. Through a supportive and safe environment, patients have the opportunity to express and release emotions. This often helps them feel calmer and more hopeful πŸ’

We’re proud to support this important program and share some of the moving artwork created by youth patients.

We had the sweetest little visitor come by the office ☺️ For his first birthday, Ijin and his family celebrated by donating $365β€”one dollar for each day since he was born at Surrey Memorial Hospital! Thank you to Ijin and his family for celebrating such a momentous occasion with us πŸ’œ

Fun fact: Did you know that every day, 16 babies are born at Surrey Memorial Hospital? That's equivalent to a whole new kindergarten class every two days!

We're grateful to our longstanding partner, Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society for committing a $100,000 pledge towards the new cardiac catheterization labs (cath labs) at Surrey Memorial Hospital. To date, Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society has donated over $1.5 million since 1993!

The new cath labs will allow cardiologists to diagnose and treat problems in heart and blood vessels before they cause larger issues, such as a heart attack or stroke.

The Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society are heroes, both in and out of the fire truck. Thank you!

New technology helps Guide Nutrition in Surrey ICU patients 06/24/2024

Malnutrition is a significant problem in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, as healthcare clinicians have struggled to accurately assess patients' energy needs. Thanks to your support, we were able to fund a groundbreaking technology called Indirect Calorimetry, which measures a patient's energy needs

Since the Critical Care department started using the new device last summer, the dietitians have found it to be a huge game-changer. They are now able to conduct tests more often, resulting in better accuracy for personalized and precise nutrition plans, ultimately helping to improve ICU outcomes.
