The Dorothy Ley Hospice is an organization that is close to my heart.They support the community with much needed hospice palliative care, grief and bereavement support. There is support available to individuals and families to live well through serious illness, end of life and loss.

The hospice started 35 years as an ambitious desire of a small group of committed community members to provide compassionate end-of-life care to members of the community. They’ve grown into an award-winning, not-for-profit community and residential palliative care and bereavement support organization.

At last count the Dorothy Ley Hospice has supported over 1,000 individuals with care in their homes. 87% say they are better equipped to cope with their grief and over 3,000 people have been able to attend group and individual grief sessions.

In an effort to continue to support all the important work that the Dorothy Ley Hospice organization offers and hopes to build in the future, I’d like to invite you to join me at their fundraiser coming up on September 25, 2024 Celebrating 35 Years of Care – Dorothy Ley Hospice Anniversary Celebration

Staging Your Home - CURB APPEAL edition

When staging your home it’s all about making potential owners feel like this could be their home one day. Making a good first impression starts as they pull up to the property. A well maintained property lets the future owners know that this property has been cared for right from the front walk all the way to the back garden.

How to get started
Stand out front and take note of EVERYTHING that is less than perfect. Don’t forget the flower beds and the lawn, the porch area and think about outdoor lighting. Give some thought to where potential buyers will first see your property and then move it from there and see what you notice. Doing this at different times of the day is also a good idea.

Here are some things to look out for:
Are the front windows clean? When people are coming for a showing make sure the drapes are open and the lights are on, inside and out.
Does your home need a power wash?
Give the gutters and downspouts a once over. Do they need replacing? Cleaning?

Do the bushes need pruning? Does the lawn need weeding? Are there bare patches that need attention?

As you walk up to your home take note of whether there are any loose paving stones that need fixing or weeds that need pulling.

Is the walkway and sidewalk clear of tree branches? Give some thought to adding outdoor lighting. It can really make a difference to what your property looks like at night.

Do the flower beds need some attention? Adding a few fresh annuals, doing a bit of pruning and sprinkling some mulch can really refresh the garden.

Do your window boxes and planters look their best? Fresh annuals and a quick wipe can make a huge difference with a small investment.

Does the front door need repainting or would a quick touch up do the trick? What about the hardware? Light fixtures? Mailbox? Don’t forget the screen door. How’s it holding up?

Before every showing or Open House remember to make sure the drapes are open and the lights are on, even during the day. Give the front porch and the walkway a quick sweep if need be and make sure any packages or mail is out of sight. Looks like you’re ready to go!
