Oh no!! :((( I'd figured The Nevers might get cancelled but it's still devastating when you hear that it's for sure. 😢 What a fabulous show and fascinating world!! I rewatched the last episode recently coz I was so intrigued by that future world that led to everything that was happening to them! And I don't watch WestWorld but that's really crazy they cancelled that too mid-season! Argh!

Bulletproof coffee with butter and cocoa butter! 🤩 And reading a new used book I just got! Nice little break from life. 😊

But let's paint the whole picture here. Like many I struggle with self-care and resting and treating myself. sigh. Today I was going to go mail my Toronto election ballot and check out a new coffee shop. I got in the car and started over-thinking. :/ And realized I was worried my ballot wouldn't arrive on time from small town Ontario. And that I was going into the city this week anyway and I should just use the drop off boxes. But then there was feelings of failure and disappointment. Failure to do something I planned to do I guess? Disappointment at not getting coffee shop treat? And then my trauma adaption was like "Don't bother with anything, go inside and wallow. Or go do work. That's all you deserve.".

And so I tried to resist and managed to make a little coffee shop break and reading treat happen at home! I did it!! 🎉 And I'm sharing coz I wanna acknowledge self care isn't easy in this society, the opposite is deeply programmed into us. "Work hard till you drop. Austerity and discipline are your sources of success. Etc"

Sunny rain days have the most gorgeous lighting!! And the most varied! All these pics are within metres and minutes of each other! This was near Crawford, ON.

I'm re-reading one of my favourite series and falling in love all over again!! Reading the first book Crystal Singer I just felt like I'd come home!! 😊❤️ I guess coz I first read them when I was young, in my formative years?

I just realized finishing this book just now... the parts I resonated with are such a reflection of who you are the moment. When I was young, I was enthralled with the romance of when they first meet... I loved it so much! 😍 This time I found it hard to get into it or relish it. :( But what did draw me in was Killashandra's moments of anxious worry and depression. The last few years of my life have sucked and anxiety and depression have been close companions. 😢 I guess kudos to Anne McCaffrey for describing all of the good and bad feelings so well!

I had to watch Hell or High Water coz it's part of Taylor Sheridan's loose trilogy with Sicario and Wind River since I loved those 2 movies SO MUCH!! This one was great, crazy how many awards it got. (ie. the awards have their own wiki page!)

Cinematography was to die for, I just drooled over some of the early shots!! Actors, characters, story were fantastic of course.

And one scene these cowboys have to herd a bunch of cattle away from a fire, and the cowboy is muttering about it being the 21st century and how he's still doing this and grumbles "no wonder my kids want nothing to do with this"!! That killed me!! hahahaha!!

WHAT a movie!! Irresistible, written and directed by Jon Stewart, was incredible! So smart and brilliant yet with some huge laugh-out-loud moments!! Hahahaha!! I was dying! And the cast! So many awesome, awesome actors! And the whole thing so perfectly crafted and played out!! And such a precise critique of modern election systems!! I suspect we have some of the same holes in our Canadian elections. Just WOW! To learn so much and laugh so much in the same movie, and enjoy something so well made... just awesome! :D

Mommy can I come out now? 🤣

This is a BIG conundrum for me. 😟🙃 Most of my life I have avoided routine like the plague! All I saw around me was people stuck in complacency, in lives they'd never chosen, often apathetic.

But in avoiding complacency so obsessively, during the last few years I've realized what a chaotic s**tstorm I made out of my life instead!! 🤯

Multiple burnouts later, I am now trying really hard to add more routine into my life. I've been "self-unemployed" (as my dad used to say! ;) for years so I have control over my schedule but I am now working on wrangling it into something helpful!

My morning wakeup! Look who couldn't wait to take over Ian's pillow as soon as he got up! She was being sooooo cute!!!

I read this quote in an article and it really resonated. My dad died almost exactly.... oh s**t... *gasp* ... 3 years ago. I'm shocked coz it doesn't feel like 3 years. It's 3 years that I haven't been able to touch the immense grief I feel at losing him. The only thing that's happened in 3 years is my memories of him are fading. 😢😢😢

But if I'm honest, what's also been happening this last 3 years is I'm building the awareness and capacity and skill to feel that grief. Not there yet though. But I've learnt a lot about how cut off I am from my emotions, that it's one of my many "small T" trauma adaptations, and why I'm lacking emotional and physical capacity for any of this. And I've been working on rebuilding. It'll come.

But this quote is important to me coz I also realized I'm the way I am coz of the society I live in. Emotions and crying are discouraged, so much so that funerals are now "Celebrations of Life". That makes me angry. We so badly need to be able to express our emotions! If I hadn't decided to pursue acting I wouldn't have even known I was missing emotional expression!

Omg you want a show that does commentary on TV sitcoms?! Wanda vision was benign. Kevin Can F**k Himself is scathing! So good, so smart, so perfectly filmed to give you the contrasting worlds! Finally we get to explore the life of a beleaguered wife to a sitcom man-child!

And I knew Annie Murphy was amazing from Schitts Creek but she's incredible in this! Just wow! It's more dark and smart than funny, so it's a bit of a heavy watch but. :)

And at the end of the first episode they had a "In Memory of Lynn Shelton" which I found really touching. 😢 ❤️ (awesome female director that died at age 54 :( )

I look at this quote often. It reminds me why I try and practice and the natural extension of that has been the I'm building in . As I've been working on through Dr Valerie Rein's course, I've realized how important it is to become awake to my trauma adaptations/behaviours, to know why I'm doing what I do, and to begin to accept it and allow it and one day appreciate everything I've done to get here. And to learn to appreciate who I've been and who I'll become. 😊

So I'm glad the sequel's happening, but I gotta say I have mixed feelings about Part 1. :/ It was a gorgeous movie, tells the story well, actors are amazing, the world is incredible etc!

I have read the book, watched the 1984 movie, watched both TV mini-series, and this is my 4th iteration of this story. And you know what? I DON'T love the story! :( It's really cool scifi and I love it for that but that's it. :/

The story itself is old fashioned. It's over 50 years old!! And Foundation is over 70 years old and *that's* what we're making in 2021?!

Dune like much of the writing around that era is male-centric and portrays colonization and I gotta say... I'm just finding myself tired of these types of stories. I want more fresh, modern, inclusive scifi!

OMG THIS!!! It describes everything I've learnt and the root of our personal s**t and our societal s**t!! We ignore our bodies and emotions for the sake of so-called rationality, but it has backfired and harmed us and others! And we so desperately need to listen and understand and be compassionate to ourselves, so we can do so to others!!

When someone utters these words after saying or doing something racist, believe them.

They are telling the utmost truth.

Here's why.

The dominant culture teaches us that our feelings are demonic.

Our emotions are irrational.

And since both emotions and feelings are held in the body, we end up believing that our bodies are wrong, too.

We then disconnect from our bodies which means we disconnect from the very thing that will never lie to us.

We navigate these Internet streets believing, instead, that objectivity, neutrality, and logic are the highest form of human perfection.

Ask for facts and data.

Ignore lived experiences.

Mock a person's sensitivities.

Belittle intuition.

Our bodies bear witness to the disconnect and stays silent.

Plays along.

All to stay safe, secure, and feel supported.

We are not Vulcans, nor are we Borg.

We are human beings living a human life.

Our mind needs our body and our body needs our mind.

Otherwise, our minds will deceive us.

Lie to us.

Convince us of whatever story it needs us to believe to make ourselves look good - all to (supposedly) get power, privilege, and prestige.

This is one reason why mindset training does not work.

Writing down limiting beliefs, then changing it to a positive affirmation is your mind lying to you.

Manipulating you.

Gaslighting you.

All while your body craves to be seen, acknowledged and BELIEVED.

Because it knows the truth.

This is why a person can do or say something racist, homophobic, ableist, Islamophobic, sexist, xenophobic, just to name a few, then turn around and say, "I don't have a [insert -ism or -phobic] bone in my body."

What we're witnessing is someone who is DEEPLY disconnected from their body.

YES!! To all of that!! I love when it's good enough to get lost in!! I'm loving the book I'm currently reading, an amazing scifi world and character but I'm not getting lost in it? It's not quite a page-turner although captivating still? And with my all-time fave books (Blue Sword + Here and the Crown) I've read them soooo many times those images from the book feel like memories!! They're so easily brought up in my mind at any moment!

Last night was my first time back at in forever!! And it was so exciting!! Felt so happy walking in the front door!! AND even saw a friend and had a brief chat!!
