I am finally allowed to talk about this, folks...

Well, Boo! The most recent Halloween episode of Murdoch Mysteries will air THIS Monday, October 30th at 3pm and 8pm respectively, on CBC. Also, on CBC Gem's free streamable website!

"Station House of Horrors"

After 17 seasons, one might ask what makes this one so special. Well, if you know me (and even if you don't) you get to see little ol' me play a featured character in the episode! Very exciting, and for all the love of great writing, this one is really gonna be something. Like, really really!

But I digress, as you tune in, turn alllll the lights on and keep telling yourself, over and over...

Michael Giel is actually a lovely person in real life.

In 2019 I got booked to play a Bartender in a film called Polar. Specifically, the scene (major spoiler warning) where Richard Dreyfuss assassinates Mads Mikkelsen with a subtle, poisoned handshake, after a lengthy discussion while sitting together at the bar, sipping whisky. I was just an Actor guy doing what I do at the time, but maaaan...I poured iced tea for the two of them all night long, and, in case I forgot to mention it, I got to watch him kill Mads Mikkelsen! Five times! That was one of my better days at the office that I won't soon forget.

I was asked to block the scene with them for a few hours, saying nothing of course...just refilling their glasses on cue. But quite simply, Wow - being an itty bitty part of their process, taking a few hours to be present while we pour (no pun intended) over their dialogue, nail the timing and pinpoint all the right notes of what is an incredibly integral scene in this film, between two legends. It took a long time before they were both satisfied enough with the mutual, common elements they were about to create.

That experience made me realize all over again that most people have this very romantic idea of what success is in this industry, but have no realistic grasp on how hard you have to work to get there, once you're there. Dreyfuss (and Mads), to me, is a guy that takes nothing for granted, and he swished through that painstaking process with the flow and grace of Baryshnikov.

After a tedious 14 hours spent on set that night, I went home feeling incredibly inspired. I still am. Believe me when I say this folks; nobody does it like Dreyfuss. ♥️

A true American Icon, who was not only a legendary Actor with unparalleled physical comedy skills and a flawless sense of timing, who was fired from the biggest show in America for standing up for women’s equality, she was also a huge hit in Las Vegas. She had a residency in that city that lasted 15 years - beating Elvis' Vegas residency by 8 years!

She wrote a staggering 27 books, 14 of which were NY Times Best Sellers, and she sold over 10 million Thigh Masters as the sole owner of her own company! She was a true renaissance woman who gave me great inspiration throughout my career.

She had been suffering from breast cancer for over 20 years and, despite all her bravery and strength, it took her life the other day. She will always be a survivor to me, as her legacy will live on forevermore.

Thank you for everything. You taught me much, and helped to show me fearlessness in my mechanisms as a creative being.

Rest in Power, Suzanne Somers.

I'm at a book reveal and signing today, at Pizzeria Defina Roncesvalles. Rachel created the cover illustration for Dave Penswick's newest novel, Four Minutes Revisited. I love it when people who diligently abide by passion's call get published.

A beautiful and sunny Saturday, surrounded by collective joy.

C'mon down ❤️

Remember 2 years ago, when it was the hottest time of the year, and we were all still in lockdown? Me too.

My mental health entailed hyper-focussing on something. So when Zac asked me if I was interested in contributing a song or two to a streamable, from-home, virtual concert series for Mansfield's Cabaret, I jumped on it. They were just expecting a simple little song from home, and I...gave them this instead.

Rachel and Bilbo put up with me for days, turning our apartment upside down....so that I could one day show you this.

Today's the day.
Enjoy.

Remember when you first saw the SFX in the film The Lawnmower Man back in '92 and said "whoah"? Or the time you played a game on the first PlayStation, with its cutting-edge graphics, and said "Whooaahh"? Or, even now, most any moving picture from the Marvel library of film..."WHOAH!"

The unbridled, unregulated advancement of manufactured computer animation programs and their growing applications in my industry is the natural path of human exploration. But the demagogues in Hollywood that are choosing to strip everyone involved in generating their billion dollar profit margins of their basic HUMAN RIGHTS is anything but natural. It's good old fashioned greed at a wole new & unprecedented level, pure and simple.

I stand with SAG-AFTRA entirely, and without measure. We will not beg for what we are entitled to, but we will stand strong, and we will fight. Be on the right side of history, or get out of the way...because we have nothing left to lose.

We often take for granted the number of people's lives that we are exposed to as we grow. My experiences on stage over the years is certainly no exception to this rule and, in fact, it is so much more evident now, today, that I simply wouldn't be the person I am without these incredibly fortunate, wildly unpredictable, radically inclusive moments on stage.

Happy National Theatre Day everybody.

CORNERS - trailer 11/19/2022

I have been invited to the Shorts Not Pants Film Festival in Toronto today to premiere and Q&A a wonderful little film I was in titled "Corners"! Written and Directed by James Brylowski and starring the incomparable Michael D. Cohen and Linda Kash, Corners has received quite a few awards and accolades as of late, and it has a few more stops to make before the end of the year.

Specifically, Corners has been awarded "Best International Short" and "Best Comedy" at the Catalina Film Festival, "Best Narrative Short" at the Santa Cruz Film Festival , the "Hollywood Eagle Audience Award" at Polish Film Festival Los Angeles, and was a nominee for the "Tim Burton Visionary Award" at the Burbank International Film Festival. I am so happy to be a part of such a fun, funny and important little underdog story such as this. Onto the Yellowknife Film Festival!

Virtual and in-person tickets are available at shortsnotpants.com, and you can watch the official trailer for Corners right here:

The only fan letter I ever received in my life. I received this the day after singing in front of an Earl Haig Secondary School audience for the first time. I only knew 3 chords on the guitar at the time, but Grade 11 was the setting, back in '94, and I wrote a few songs to sing at the talent show in the auditorium.

I never met this Christie person, but her friend was on my Student Council at the time, and he delivered this to my locker on her behalf. I knew then that this was something I would always keep.

I haven't seen this note in over 25 years, but I rediscovered it the other day. How adorable. Included is the promo shot they displayed in the front foyer of the school, advertising the event. I had a mean set of bangs back then.

Laws of Movieland:

When a side-character has been living their own contribution to the story arc, the time will come to reel then in a little closer. Have them turn on the TV (or radio) at the exact moment that the news reporter starts telling the exact information they need, in order for the character to be brought up to the exact speed as everyone else.

Domenick and Eugene, Field of Dreams, Article 99, Unlawful Entry, Corrina Corrina, Muppets From Space, Hannibal, Blow, John Q, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and, of course, his opus, Goodfellas.

Every one of the characters he portrayed in the body of work I easily remember, listed above, sets the bar for me personally, and justifies the many years of sacrifice and hard work, striving to encompass even a fragment of the excellence the he has shown in his body of work as an Actor.

Ray Liotta transitioned out of his mortal coil last night in his sleep. I have his whole career to look back on, for the rest of my life. Thanks Ray.
