A conversation with acclaimed Tibetan education sociologist Dr. Gyal Lo about his research on China’s vast system of colonial boarding schools in Tibet. Since arriving in exile, he has spoken at the United Nations, the Canadian Parliament, and in front of other audiences to advocate for the cultural and language rights of Tibetans inside of Tibet.

We are honoured to welcome Dhondup Wangchen for the first time in Canada, ahead of the Tibetan National Uprising Day on March 10th. Dhondup Wangchen served six years in Chinese prison for his film, ‘ Leaving Fear Behind’ which documented Tibetans inside Tibet in the year leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His fearlessness, his sacrifices and his film have inspired and continues to inspire many of us.

Recently, Human Rights Watch and Citizens Lab have reported that the Chinese government has launched a full scale campaign of biometric repression against Tibetans. The Chinese government has collected DNA samples from up to one third of the population of Tibetans living under Chinese occupation in the so-called Tibetan Autonomous Region. This includes monks, nuns, nomads, families, and children as young as five years old. Thermo Fisher Scientific, an American manufacturing company, has been supplying the Chinese police with the technology and even DNA kits used to steal DNA from innocent Tibetans.

Thermo Fisher has a responsibility to its shareholders and the wider international community to conduct proper due diligence and ensure that the company’s products are not used for repression. In the case of Tibet, Thermo Fisher has completely failed its responsibilities. It is our job to hold the company accountable! Join the campaign by attending our rally in front of the Thermo Fosher office at 2845 Arengtina Road on Friday Feb3d.

You can also sign the petition to call on Thermo Fisher to STOP helping China steal Tibetan DNA!
