The next day a drive to Vancouver for an afternoon of filming with Alison and Tiffany Thanks all, for the fun, your great teaching and for your willingness to dive in and just do. I’m loving our new stability discs. Feels like a low back massage while doing a core workout. Yet another fun toy :)

Practice teaching Chair for the first time is no easy task. Complex spring decisions, lots of adjustments for height and so little support from the equipment makes for a big learning curve. Thanks to their focus and eagerness to dive in, this was a highly successful training weekend for all trainees. The Chair can be humbling to do and intimidating to teach. Well done everyone! That was so fun :)

Our teacher training courses are held in very small groups to ensure lots of individual guidance and we offer support even after the course ends. This can progress to apprenticeship opportunities for many participants. Meet Colleen who completed our Reformer teacher training program in May and is now ready to teach. It’s a great opportunity for Colleen to further expand her skills and a great opportunity for a few lucky people to get an introduction to Reformer Pilates at a greatly reduced rate. If you’re interested in booking a $35 apprentice session - inquire today! Limited availability. Restrictions apply.

Well said Alison! Communication is critical to effective teaching. May I add developing an eye for dynamic postural alignment? In studio training adds layers of finesse to your training.

What a fabulous weekend of teaching ! Thanks to every trainee for jumping into Body Day practice with bravery and enthusiasm. There were some great teaching moments from everyone. Thanks for making this intensive reformer training so much fun! A GO train made for relaxing travel, and coffee got us through. I’m looking forward to watching the teaching skills progress in part 2.

Spring News Perhaps it’s the end of covid hibernation. Or maybe it’s due to the spring (ish) weather? Either way it appears that Pilates is on a major upswing. We are trendy once again. Yay Pilates :) New studios are popping up everywhere and certified teachers are in high demand.

An ideal work set up is one that allows us to change positions easily. This was a perfect set up for me this morning allowing cross legged, hinging or alternating one foot up positions. If you get used to shifting constantly your body will continually want to shift. We don’t want our tissues to be held in the same position for hours even in a position that is balanced and well aligned.

My feet found a vivo foot friend :) I thought I’d see way more movement friendly shoes at a Pilates symposium. Wide toe box and minimal incline allows full ankle mobility and space for the arch to spring and spread - all of the biomechanics that we talk about in the Pilates world. Mind you, my vivos didn’t take me to the ballet. That 2 hour walk was in heels. The best of both worlds? I’m hoping so.

Well: 5 reasons to take a walk, chiropractic risks and how introverts make friends 03/20/2023

11 mins of moderate-vigorous activity daily can make a massive difference to health including lowering our risk of cancer. This was one of the surprises in the literature review referred to in this article. Half the weekly recommendation (150mins/weekly), at only 75 minutes per week made a signficant difference in health outcomes. This means that for many people a brisk 11 minute walk can be caterogized as moderate to vigorous. Yes. More is better. But 11 mins is so very worth it!

Well: 5 reasons to take a walk, chiropractic risks and how introverts make friends I, like so many of us, spend too much time hunched over a computer — and it’s alarming me a little. So throughout my day, I ask myself: Can this activity be done while walking? I’ve recently taken meetings and made eight-minute phone calls on foot, and I turned one coffee date with a friend in...

Tight hip flexors? Our first instinct is so often to stretch, but a strengthening series can be much more effective. This is my favourite series of the moment. The slow initiation of the pike on the ball with the eccentric lowering can be a challenge.

How Long Does It Take to Get Fit Again? 02/27/2023

We all know that we have to keep moving to stay healthy. Sometimes knowing some specific details as to why this is true can be really motivating and this article reconfirms the reality. Keeping some movement up, even when it feels minimal and futile, is well worth it.
"After 12 days (of inactivity), studies show that the total amount of blood the heart pumps every minute decreases, along with the amount of oxygenated blood available to muscles and other cells."
How motivating is that?

How Long Does It Take to Get Fit Again? We all stray from exercise sometimes. Here’s how your body will bounce back.
