Planned Parenthood Toronto
A future of sexual and reproductive choice, freedom and possibilities.
Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary and sexual health care services to youth between the ages of 13 and 29. PPT also offers health promotion programming, education, training, and research to improve the health and well-being of Toronto’s diverse communities. All PPT services are offered within a pro-choice, inclusive, youth-friendly, non-j

Planned Parenthood Toronto stands in deep solidarity for all those who hit the streets over the last several months to vote against a platform of hate. Last night’s results were devastating.
In particular, we are thinking this morning of the families of Nevaeh Crain, 18 and Josseli Barnica, 28 who devastatingly lost their daughters as a direct result of the abortion bans in Texas championed by Donald Trump. We are thinking of the unimaginable harm and suffering they had to endure. And we are thinking of the countless other women and pregnant people – named and unnamed – who have been forced to face a similar fate.
Over the last several years, we have been horrified watching the backlash against vulnerable communities. In addition to the attacks on women, girls, and gender diverse people, hateful and dehumanizing rhetoric targeting racialized immigrants and newcomers has been normalized. Like you we have witnessed the growth of a coordinated and well-resourced movement make its way into Canadian politics and public discourse at an alarming rate.
We know that you’re probably scared. Scared of what is to come, and terrified of the rights and protections we hold dear might one day be eroded as well. These fears make sense – everywhere we look it is as if the far-right is being emboldened.
And we know that you’re probably tired too. Tired of the remarkable levels of government neglect. Of the spectacular displays of cruelty. Tired of screaming at the top of your lungs to be seen. To be heard. And so today, from everyone at PPT – the doctors, nurses and peer educators in our clinic; the unbelievable front desk and medical secretarial staff; the health promoters and mental health clinicians; and all of our admin staff – we say we see you. We offer our deepest solidarity and promise to continue to show up for youth in our city.
As we take a moment to grieve, Planned Parenthood Toronto wishes to re-assert that it will continue to fight boldly for reproductive justice here in Canada. We will continue to show up for trans and gender-diverse youth. And we will not leave those marginalized and abandoned by systems of oppression behind. And we want you to join us and help us build a future we could all be proud of.

On October 10, the Senate passed Bill C-64, also known as the Pharmacare Act. With this bill passing, Canada is closer to providing up to nine million women and gender-diverse people with free access to contraception.
Thanks to years of advocacy, the Pharmacare Act is a bold affirmation of reproductive freedom. This victory really belongs to all of you who have fought tirelessly to ensure that healthcare is a right, not a privilege!
We know that when contraception such as birth control pills and IUDs are financially and readily accessible, young people feel empowered to make decisions about their bodies, which is a great example of reproductive justice.
As we learned from , reproductive justice means having bodily autonomy, including the right to have children or to not have children, as well as the right to parent children in safe and sustainable communities.
And though we’ve reached an incredible milestone with the passing of Bill C-64, there is more work to be done. We must continue to push for Pharmacare to cover ALL forms of contraception and ensure that no person, regardless of age, class or insurance, is left without the care they deserve.

The flu shot is your best defence against the flu. The flu shot is recommended for almost everyone who is 6 months of age and older.
The flu shot helps to protect you if you later get exposed to the virus by helping to:
- prevent you from getting very sick from flu-related complications
- protect people close to you because, when vaccinated, you're less likely to spread the virus to others
- reduce the overall burden on the health care system during respiratory virus season
- reduce your chances of being infected with the flu and other respiratory viruses at the same time, including COVID-19, which could lead to serious complications
The flu shot won't protect you against COVID-19, so it's also very important to be up to date with:
- recommended COVID-19 vaccinations
- any other recommended vaccines
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — a significant day, born out of Orange Shirt Day.
At Planned Parenthood Toronto, today we pause to acknowledge that the violent wounds of settler colonialism are not just historical. They are with us today; they are present, they are lived, and they endure.
Reproductive Justice acknowledges the impacts of ongoing colonial violence in the still extremely high rates of child apprehension, forced sterilization, the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people, extreme surveillance and incarceration, land theft, and climate degradation against Indigenous communities throughout this nation state.
This violence continues today.
The horrors of residential schools, which forcibly removed over 150,000 Indigenous children from their families, were not isolated incidents of abuse. They were in fact part of a deliberate, systemic attempt to erase Indigenous community, culture and identity. Thousands of children never returned home, and over recent years settlers have had growing awareness of what Indigenous communities have known for over 150 years — the extent of the nightmarish horrors Indigenous children experienced in residential schools.
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report, a profound testament to the voices of survivors, have laid bare these atrocities. The truth is undeniable: many thousands of children died in these institutions, and the trauma caused by this system continues to cascade through generations.
As a youth community health centre committed to Reproductive Justice and sexual health, we recognize that our work cannot be whole unless it grapples both with these truths and its implications.
As the past becomes the present, we also contend with what this truth of violent settler colonialism means for the future. The advocacy and resistance of Indigenous communities, often led by the brilliance of Indigenous youth voices, serve as our calls to action. As an organization that both serves the community with a deep commitment to accountability yet is part of the settler colonial project, we know that the road towards justice is long and only possible through our commitments as treaty people.
The Dish with One Spoon Wampum guides us to be in truthful, respectful, self-aware, and collective relationship with Indigenous communities who have lived in, gathered in, and cared for the land, water and living beings in Tkaronto. Today we pause, tomorrow we continue to push.
Today, and always, we say: youth futures now.

At the heart of every community lies a simple, powerful value: respect. Every single child, no matter who they are or how they identify, deserves to grow up in a world where respect is not a privilege, but a right. This is a value we must fiercely protect.
Later today, for the second horrific year in a row, trans students in Ontario will be targeted by a well-organized protest aimed at attacking their very right to exist. This is not just a protest—it’s a cruel assault on our youth’s humanity, and it demands an urgent response from all of us.
Make no mistake—trans youth are under attack. Q***r youth are under attack. These children are being forced to defend their right to be themselves. While cynical right wing leaders across Canada fuel these hateful movements hoping to make political hay off the backs of vulnerable children, we in Ontario must rise up and demand better.
We have a duty to hold Premier Doug Ford to his promise: to keep schools safe for all students. We will not stand by as hate and fear threaten the dignity of our youth.
Now is the moment to act. The attacks on trans youth are happening today—but with your support, we can ensure they don’t succeed. Here’s how you can help:
🗣️ Raise your voice: Write to Premier Ford and demand that he protect trans youth and keeps his promise to make schools safe for all students.
💫 Support our work: Planned Parenthood Toronto is one of the few places in Canada providing gender-affirming care and vital mental health support services for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Your donation ensures that these young people have a safe space to turn to.
📝 Reach out to your local representative: We need every MPP to know: trans youth deserve protection, dignity, and respect.
By supporting Planned Parenthood Toronto, you’re standing on the frontlines of this battle for equality. Your contributions ensure trans youth have access to the care, respect, and advocacy they deserve.
Together, we can make sure Ontario remains a place where all students—no matter who they are—are respected for their authentic selves.
Stand with us today.
Stand with our youth.
