Now is the best time to start enjoying in-season produce. That includes those living with kidney disease, who can benefit from making fruits and vegetables part of their daily diet.

Seasonal eating means buying and eating produce at the time of year that it is grown and harvested, when they are at their freshest and of the best possible quality.

For more information on what is in season in June and July check out the Kidney Community Kitchen - https://ow.ly/gC1p50SnpYU

This year marks our 60th Anniversary and in honour of that we recently kicked off our '60 for 60 Campaign'. In partnership with our amazing Atlantic Board we have challenged ourselves to find 60 donors to donate $1000 each to help us raise $60,000 before the end of the year.

We are thrilled to share that our first donor duo is none other than our President of the Board, Cindy and her her husband Mike. When asked why they decided to make this generous donation, Mike said " it's important for me to contribute to the 60 for 60 campaign because people I love are affected by kidney disease. It's that simple."

For Cindy, "it's not only that people I love are impacted, but also because more support is needed for the 1 in 10 Canadians currently impacted by Kidney disease, and more research is needed to find answers that will impact all those yet to be diagnosed."

Thank you to both Cindy and Mike for their generosity.

Keep an eye out for more '60 for 60' gratitude posts to come...

If you would like to like to become a donor and support us in reaching our goal, please reach out to Kimberley Auciello @ 902-200-8539 or [email protected]

As part of Mental Health Month we wanted to share a Self-Care Challenge.

Self-care does not require spending money or doing all the extra things. It is about being mindful about how we spend our time and energy and picking the things that matter to you.

Here are 12 things (of which maybe only a few are a fit for you) that may help you build skills in self-care. In turn, helping you become more resilient and avoid burnout.

Let us know if you tried any of these or what do you do for self-care. Please share in the comments.

Happy Earth Day! May we all be inspired by the beauty of our planet and take action to ensure a healthy future for generations to come.

Sofia’s mother was diagnosed with renal failure in 2009. Sofia, as a registered organ donor, knew that she was ready to donate her kidney, but being pregnant, she had to wait.

After giving birth to her beautiful baby boy, she and her mother underwent multiple tests and found out they were a match. The transplantation procedure went ahead, and her mother's condition improved significantly.

Sadly, Sofia’s mother caught a viral infection, which is a common risk for people who take immunosuppressants after undergoing a transplant, and passed away.

Now, Sofia spends her time educating people about organ donation and even involves her children in these activities to instill in them the value of supporting healthcare. The Kidney Foundation is immensely grateful to have her on board!
