I love photographing the K. family! One of their daughters Kaitlyn is a good friend of mine, and I was honoured to be Kaitlyn and Taylor’s wedding photographer three years ago. Since then, they’ve added a baby girl to their family! Not every one in the family lives in Vancouver, so we scheduled this family session for Thanksgiving Monday morning. Unfortunately we were given a dark, rainy morning for the shoot, but we absolutely made it work given the circumstances.
What you don’t see pictured below? About 10 umbrellas thrown to the side every 20 seconds and picked up again, and lots of shuffling babies and toddlers and jackets. Besides a few rain drops on clothes and some damp hair (toward the end of the session), you’d never be able to tell what a dark, horrible weather morning it was. This was a team effort!

It’s the BEST when wedding clients turn into anniversary/family session clients down the road! I photograph Susan and Alfred’s wedding back in Summer 2014, and I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Susan’s family since, including her sister’s wedding, as well as two photo sessions for Susan and Alfred’s anniversaries.
Susan and Alfred recently celebrated their 10th anniversary with a trip to Japan. Susan got 2 new stunning rings that I noticed right away in celebration of their marriage milestone! In 2023, they visited family in Vancouver during November, and I took photos of Susan and Alfred in Yaletown on a clear, but blustery day.
In 2024, Susan and Alfred decided to take advantage of Vancouver’s milder Summers (compared to Hong Kong’s heat!) and schedule their trip and portrait session for September. We chose one of my favourite locations (Pacific Spirit Park) because it’s a favourite of mine, but also because it’s a spot they had never photographed before!

"Jamie was with us every step of the way, from choosing where to shoot and telling us what to do. We are complete photography amateurs and Jamie instantly put us all at ease! My family and I will cherish the moments captured in these photos for years to come!"

Bev and Rob were married on Friday, October 4 at the beautiful Shaughnessy Restaurant beside Van Dusen Gardens in Vancouver. Their wedding day was as close to perfect as you can get—beautiful Fall foliage peeking out on the primarily-still-green-Vancouver-trees, the perfect temperature, a mix of sun and clouds, and even 5 minutes of rain to sprinkle a little good luck.

"Working with Jamie is easy! She’s excellent at capturing the perfect moments and expressions, especially with kids. Jamie was great at directing our family so the photos turned out natural and not posed." –Olivia & Howard

I received an inquiry from Jonathan asking about my availability on July 7 for a family session that would turn into a proposal. After ten wonderful years with his girlfriend and raising two beautiful kids, Jonathan wanted to propose at 7 o’clock on the 7th month and 7th day—numbers that hold special significance for their family.
Having done a few candid proposal shoots this year—where I’m typically hiding and tracking clients via GPS—it was a dream to integrate the proposal into a family session!
We devised a subtle plan: I would check the time on my camera, as I usually don’t pay much attention to it during sessions. When it hit 6:58 PM, I’d casually say, “I’m just going to check the time... okay, great! It’s 6:59 PM, we’re about halfway through.” (Not something I typically say, but it worked perfectly!)
As planned, just before 7:00 PM, the kids were with their Grandpa behind the camera while Jonathan and May stood in front of me. The photos turned out beautifully, capturing May’s surprised tears perfectly! It’s moments like these that make my job so rewarding. Thank you, Jonathan, for inviting me be a part of it!

"I can’t even begin to express how amazing Jamie and her team are. They captured our big day so perfectly. I love all the attention to detail and the candid photos they took of our guests and memories captured. Jamie provides excellent guidance for posing and finds the perfect locations for photos. She makes you feel natural and comfortable in front of the camera and makes taking pictures fun!!
She executed my family portraits perfectly, I was nervous about getting everyone to cooperate smoothly but Jamie took charge and got it all done for us which we truly appreciate. I’m am beyond happy with all our wedding photos we love to look back at our special day and cherish the memories Jamie had captured." —Gioia & Tyler

Natalie and Raymond are two of my most loyal clients, hiring me almost every Summer they come back to Vancouver for a visit from Hong Kong. I’ve photographed all of the city with this family: Gastown, Yaletown, Granville Island, Stanley Park, and now, it was time for a family session at Jericho Beach.
One of my most favourite Summer locations to photograph in Vancouver is Jericho Beach. It also helped that their kids are getting old enough to easily handle a 8:00pm start time for Jericho Beach family photos in July! (When they were toddlers, not so much. I remember one of their earlier sessions in Yaletown years ago, desperately trying to keep their attention, moving backgrounds every 2 minutes, etc, haha.)

"Our 15 minute mini session was phenomenal! So easy, professional and laid back. We received beautiful pictures which I thought would be impossible with a 4 year old!" —Amber

My family session with the B. family recently was the last of the many “we’re visiting Vancouver as a family this Summer and we’d love photos!” emails I received this Summer. Sooo grateful every time a family chooses to visit my beautiful city AND book a family session to remember their time here. The B. family is spread across three States in the US, on opposite sides of the country. It’s special for them to be together as a family, and this year they picked Vancouver (and Whistler!) as their vacation destination.
There was a lot of August rain in the forecast the week their session was scheduled, but I told the B. family to trust me! I would be monitoring the weather closely, and had faith that it would clear up “enough” so that we wouldn’t be photographing in the rain…
And although it really was touch and go there, I’m grateful this family trusted me to keep our original date. (But I did have to text the client that morning and say, “Any chance you’re free at 2pm instead of our original 4:30pm start time? The hourly forecast is giving us a better chance of overcast vs. rain at that time.” Given that they were on vacation, they were free to move it up, and besides 2 minutes of sprinkling rain near the beginning of the session, we were rain-free for the next 1.5 hours!
