La comédie à la française / Comedy in French style

Synchronized swimming team for men, Catherine Deneuve singing in the rain, Tati (aka Monsieur Hulot) wandering in an ultra-modern suburban house, love and horror stories with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in Paris: French comedy has it all!
The Department of Modern Languages is excited to present Paris je t’aime (Comedy/Drama, 2006, 1h33), come Thursday October 19 at 5pm (Room A218). Screening will be in French with English subtitles. Everyone is welcome!
This will be the first of a series of four French film screenings: “Paris je t’aime” (Paris I love you, Oct 19), “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Nov 2), “Mon oncle” (My Uncle, Nov 16) and “Le Grand bain” (Sink or swim, Nov 30). Through these screenings, you’ll get a taste of French-language cinema and music, and its unique sense of humour.
We will open up discussions among students, staff, and faculty after each screening, and will provide some tasty treats!
These screenings are supported by the Federal French Grant from the Ministry of Education, with the purpose of promoting the French language and Francophone cultures.

Odyssey is a 9-month program in Quebec or New Brunswick that offers you, as a paid language assistant, a position in a classroom setting and the opportunity to practice your French-speaking skills while helping students learn English. Odyssey pays approximately $27/hr, holiday pay, and other benefits.

The project is organized by students to aim for international exchange and friendship forming between Keio University and Canadian Universities.
On September 30, 2022, French instructors Han Fei and Mirabelle Tinio took 6 students from FREN1215 (Beginners’ French II) to the Vancouver International Film Festival. They watched a French movie “Maigret,” an adaptation of famous detective series by Georges Simenon. Here’s a report from one of the participants, Loverose Sandhu.
On Thursday, November 24 at 4 pm, join us in A310 for a free Screening of Antigone, an adaptation of Sophocles’ Greek tragedy set in present-day Quebec. A young immigrant’s life is turned upside down when her brother is arrested, and she concocts a plan to take his place in prison.
French Conversation is offered in Spring 2023 from 12:30 – 2:20 pm, Mondays and Wednesdays, in person.
The course focuses on conversational skills and specific tasks like talking about your interests, asking for (and giving) directions, and ordering food/drinks at a café.
