Sometimes I forget how many merch designs I actually created and that over the years I had a few regular clients who always came back to commission designs, so I would like to focus on a few of these clients. Starting with:

I think this overview pictures all the merch I've done for them, with 2016 (bottom left) being the first to 2023 (top right) being the last. It was a wild ride. I'm extremely grateful to them and all the regular clients I have and had for all the great opportunities.

Here's something different. A detail of a weird abstract cover painting I did for a band two years ago based on their concept. The band went with another artwork (conceptual totally different) which honestly I don't fault them, mainly because this isn't my best work.

Generally speaking, if clients give me creative freedom the more I can explore ideas and the better the outcome will be. All of my arguably most iconic artworks, the Asphyx shirt design, 1st Goath album cover, and Putrisect/Scorched split album cover have been created with absolute creative freedom and it does show.

Don't get me wrong, concepts are very important and a good basis and I do welcome and even encourage ideas/ input from bands. Fact also is most musicians aren't visual artists and they should trust professional and experienced artists for the best possible outcome.

It’s already been a year( how??)since this barn-burner of a record was released! Scotland’s COFFIN MULCH,” Spectral Intercession.” I had to wrangle this album cover commission in, buried alive in art jobs, at the time. They heroically held on, and waited for me to complete this, just before Christmas. I’m SO GLAD they did, this album splits the atom of death metal, it’s a treasure!! I sold the original painting to a collector in Norway, but prints are available. Metaphysical, D-beat metal attack, an aural blow torch!!

A stand for equality (one last statement)

With Misanthropic-Art I’ve been very vocal about where I stand socially and politically. For me in current times expressing oneself through art doesn’t go without being political. Being rooted in the Black Metal scene which always had NS tendencies I feel obligated to be openly antifascist, to stand for equality and freedom of expression for everyone regardless of gender, skin color, origin, or sexual orientation, and to speak up against racism/fascism and government censorship. After all, art is the best visual weapon to counter injustice.

That also means to speak up against Antisemitism, especially as a German, and especially when there’s a rise of antisemitic hate crimes in Germany. It just isn’t acceptable to stand quiet when people being attacked solely because they are jewish, particularly if you call yourself Antifascist. General speaking, I’m the first one to condemn governments and leaders for their (war) crimes, but it’s never ok to attack groups of people based on their ethnicity/origin and justify it with “whataboutism”. That’s something fascist/racists, and NSBM bands do, and I won’t give them a platform.

Call out Putin, Netanyahu, countries governments and military leaders, call out the CCP for the assimilation of the Uyghurs, the military factions in Myanmar, make aware of the armed conflicts in Africa, Asia, Central-/South America, and so forth. Stand up for equality and equal rights for everyone, go vote, and call out the fascist/racists in your own country, and if you will call out actual NS bands. These are all worthy causes. But don’t be holier-than-thou and start slandering others on social media just because they stand for all the above mentioned but you sided with one group of people and disregard the other.

Stand for equality, embrace art, be Antifascist.

Also, this will be my last statement on the topic. I wrote about social and political issues plenty. I obviously will keep the “three arrows” in my logo and the “Antichristian & Antifascist” slogan. Everyone can read previous posts if they like, but in the end this page is and should be about art. I’m aware I can’t please everyone and I frankly don’t want to. If anyone wants to twist words and call me things I’m not, go ahead. I’ll keep going, like I have been the last 21 years.

In 2015 I did my first design for Belgian Black/Death/Thrash maniacs SLAUGHTER MESSIAH. It was printed as white and black shirt for their "Liberations 2015/2016" tour.
Funny side note to the snippet on the right: 2018 Mexican Steal Productions poorly stole the design for a concert poster by only removing parts of Slaughter Messiah's band logo and placing a bunch of other logos over it. Still laughing at the probably most amateurish attempt to steal my art. Anyways, there's never an excuse to steal artwork, or since we're in 2023, use AI generated images.

Because I got so impressed by "Nightmares of Delirium", the brand new song of Cavalera, which appears as a bonus track on the re-recorded edition of Schizophrenia, which just got released via Nuclear Blast Records, I focused myself to access deeply the magic of the 80's metal, that completely dark fantasy fountain from which all the foundation albums of extreme metal subgenres once emerged. Because this song is so good and even is made now it sounds as good as a song created at the same time with the original album, I felt that I really need to express in the video that magic which I met first years when listening to metal, when all these musicians were appearing like dark wizards, gods for me, bringing in this reality the magic of unseen and surreal other dimensions. To aim for the purity of those times also at the visual level. Check out the video to see how it turned out! I am extremely proud to premiere the 3rd video I've created for the re-recorded version if this iconic album.
