The Kathleen Laurie School of Highland Dance
Highland Dance School located in Victoria, British Columbia offering classes to ages 3 - adult; beginners to Premiers!
New spaces and new faces to start the 2022/23 season! So excited to finally have a brand new class this year (hopefully adding another dancer next week) and to welcome back so many familiar faces. Even had a surprise guest I didn’t know had moved to town!
I’m a day late, but I couldn’t have been prouder of these dancers yesterday! The Saanich Fair is not the easiest competition as there are so many distractions. Some personal goals achieved, some medals earned, and a few things to take home to work on.
It was a HOT one tonight…. But we have another competition looming so no rest for these dancers!
A HUGE congrats to Annalise Lam from Nanaimo for becoming the Junior World Champion yesterday (after winner her first Canadian championship in July). Well done Brigadoon Dance Academy and Diena for getting her there. Go to the Brigadoon page for some really lovely photos. Well done again to all the dancers!
What an amazing afternoon in Cobble Hill! Three of these dancers danced the Lilt for the first time today and one did Lilt AND Flora. Arabella’s done those dances before but it was only the second time doing the Reel! All placed in their new dances! And I successfully pinned 4 National plaids in record time! Special shout-out to Emma who won her first medal today!
Oh my goodness they worked hard today! That’s what happens when we take a week off I guess!
Lorna: I haven’t danced a whole sword since before COVID.
Solved that!
When the class has just been entirely too much Flora for your Intermediates and Premiers… you pull out an OLD school jig step! Still a favourite!
A great loss to the Highland dancing world
Sad news. A good friend of the British Columbia Highland Games, Alan Walters, has passed away.
The Highland dancing piper, judge, piobaireachd expert, teacher, golfer, curler and fisher died this past week at his home in Surrey, BC.
More details will be available on the BC Pipers' Association website when they become available.
Rest in Peace, old friend.
Lovely work tonight dancers! Can you tell we worked on heads and turnout for this step??
Omg… please watch the whole thing. What a trooper!

The Hop Scotch Polka. One of these brave performers has had exactly 1 lesson (and a very helpful older sister 💜)
Great performance today dancers! Stay tuned for more photos and videos. My phone was being used for music!
The KLSHD performs at Folktoria this morning in Centennial Square at 11am! Come cheer us on! The rain is supposed to stay away until later.
I wish I had gotten a photo of all the dancers today.. but here is (almost) the entire studio dancing the Finale Fling to Scotland the Brave 🏴
Most Improved Dancer 2021: Iris Topshee
Most Improved Dancer 2022: Lorna Mace
Well done dancers!! Your effort has obviously not gone unnoticed… and it’s nice to have both the newest and most seasoned dancer earn this!
👏 Massive Thank You to the Victoria Highland Games Association for hosting such a fun competition this weekend at the Highland Games!
Riding on the high of dancing in the fresh air, we wanted to announce our return to the Saanich Fair! The VHDA is excited to be hosting our annual Saanich Fair competition this year on September 3rd.
We will be opening the online entries on June 1st. So mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information!
Amazing day of dancing! It’s was an 8.5 hour day but I wouldn’t change it for the world - it’s just not the May long weekend if I don’t spend an entire Sunday with my dance family ♥️
Good morning from the Victoria Highland Games!
Wait! These aren’t highland dancers… or are they?? Good luck Holland and Arabella who are competing in Irish dance today and Highland tomorrow!
Some good info here!
One last practice before the Highland Games! Couldn’t use our usual spot tonight so thank you to Victoria Irish Dancers for letting us use your space!
Working hard in the studio today…
I’m always trying to capture those awesome action shots… but sometimes you just need to appreciate that quiet moment at the end of class.
I’ve loved everything I’ve purchased from here and they are very responsive to questions! More new designs on the way it looks like!
Despite the fact that 5/6 of these lassies competed yesterday, they were in the studio today for class! The swords were rough yesterday so guess what we worked on today??
