A Neighbourhood Safety Walk will take place in Downtown Windsor this evening, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Residents are invited to the walk to learn how to prevent opportunities for crime, change the way they see and walk through their neighbourhood, and learn personal safety tips.

Participants should meet at Mitchell Park, and staff from the City of Windsor and Windsor Police Service will guide a round-trip walk (approximately 2 kilometres) through the neighbourhood north of the park.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the Windsor Santa Claus Parade, a magical event on December 2, that has been a staple in the community, creating joyous memories for families and friends. The parade, which has been held on Wyandotte Street for the last few years, will now twinkle and shine through a nostalgic route from Wyandotte Street to Riverside Drive, and then proceed on Riverside Drive to Caron Avenue. Staging will take place on Ouellette Avenue, between Erie Street and Wyandotte Street, and destaging on Caron Avenue.

To make this event even more special, The Windsor Parade Corporation is inviting local businesses, groups, and individuals to be a part of the parade and create a float that will dazzle and delight attendees of all ages. Those interested in participating and contributing to the magic of the parade are encouraged to download an application form which can be found at www.windsorparade.org.

The Good Greens Food Reclamation Program, an initiative aimed at improving food systems, reducing food waste and enhancing access to fresh, healthy food in downtown Windsor, has been met with resounding success.

We donated 420 lbs. of fresh produce to 5 agencies last week (DT Mission, Welcome Centre, Feeding Windsor-Essex, Salvation Army and DWCC). In just 3 weeks, we’ve reclaimed and donated a whopping 1,381 lbs. of first-grade local Downtown Windsor Farmers Market produce.

In a pioneering effort to enhance the safety and well-being of those engaging in the city’s vibrant nightlife, the Red Frogs Support Network has successfully concluded its trial run in the downtown core, providing an essential harm reduction service.

The project, which unfolded bi-weekly on September 2nd, 16th, and 30th, aimed to mitigate the potential negative impacts of the party culture and ensure a safe environment for all.

It was a resounding success. Over the course of three nights, the Red Frogs team distributed a staggering 1,480 food items and 135 litres of water, offering a safe space, hydration, and nourishment to those navigating the downtown nightlife. The project not only catered to the physical well-being of participants but also provided a sober and trustworthy presence, ensuring that non-emergency situations were effectively managed without burdening local Emergency Response Personnel.
