Aiki Woodworks
Aiki Woodworks is Winnipeg based artisan woodworder of pens, kitchen accessories, heath & wellness items, Christmas ornaments and other commissioned pieces.
Working with wood is very much like the martial art of Aikido. A redirection of it's energy. As a practitioner of Aikido (which is the way of harmony with Ki or energy), the focus is on blending with yourself and those around you including what you are working on. I find that working with wood is very much like the martial art of Aikido. Wood has it’s own energy that you need to blend with to work
A good pen is most definitely a status symbol and I certainly covet a good pen. Making pens has proven to be a challenge as I want to keep every one of them for myself.
Recently, I started making fountain pens and I've actually never used one before. I like it, and of course, I kept the first one for me.
The most popular design has been the Celtic knots. They are also the most difficult to make.
Let me know if there is a custom designed pen that you like.

I have made some unique Jewelry boxes which are available in my shop. These are sometimes referred to as "Bandsaw Boxes" as the drawers are cut from the solid piece of wood.
A couple from Natural Edge logs from Ash or Box Elder; and some from laminating different types of wood together to make interesting designs.

Mother's Day is only a couple months away!
Vases - turned on my small lathe in my shop.
Large Vases made from Box Elder or Oak; Bud Vases made from Golden Willow, Oak, Apricot or Box Elder; to small Vases made from Ash or Box Elder.
Some have wood burning art, like "the Dragonfly" or "the Yin/Yang." Some are textured/grooved. And some are simply showing the natural beauty of the wood.

Leanne and Charlie helping me get ready for the Dakota Christmas Market next weekend.
We were paddling on the La Salle River. We saw a bald eagle, a hawk and a deer.
Christened with some beer and then it was a fabulous paddle on the Assiniboine River. Just a short trip for Leanne as she is fighting a sore hip... then Ralph got in and we paddled about 4 km down river to The Forks.
She easy to paddle, glides like a dream and goes straight as an arrow. Now we have to wait for spring when Leanne and I can plan and go on a serious canoe trip!
FINISHED! It's currently tied down on the roof rack of the car and getting ready for its maiden voyage....
The Fall Fair at Pineridge Hollow is coming up. Come see me there all weekend!

First - WOW 🥳 - coat of epoxy done! For those that can recognize the kanji, even though it's upside down at the moment, it from the "Takemusu Aiki" scroll that Hendricks Sensei made for us.
Big thank you to Leanne for being the best helper! It took us about 90 minutes. Now we're waiting for the tacky to go away and then do the 2nd coat.
Very happy with this install of a custom office hutch with a dropdown shelf which becomes the desk. It's 48" wide x 32" tall x 9" deep and I enjoyed making every cubic inch of it!
The last strip being inserted into the cedar strip canoe is called the whiskey strip. So, you have some whiskey and then start the sanding process.
Come and see the Dragonfly Vase as well ALL of my items as I set up at the Village at Pineridge Hollow on July 15th & 16th.
Inspired by the brushes in a field next to the trees. Made from Box Elder and is 12" tall.

Live Edge Japanese Bonsai Vase. This wooden vase is made from a 9" diameter Box Elder log and is 6-1/2" tall. The Bonsai pyrography definitely gives it that Japanese look.
A perfect addition for your home decor &/or interior decorating.

It's called the "Cigar Pen." These sharp looking ballpoint pens are made from a variety of wood species to match the metal hardware colours.
Just in time for Father's Day!

Handmade wooden Katana. A great addition to your collection or an awesome gift for a visiting sensei. Not intended for actual practice 😏
With a removable handle to inspect the Tang, the blade is made from Oak and Maple weaved together. The weave produces the blade pattern that you would see on a traditional metal Katana.
The handle and sheath were made with Cedar. The guard and ferrule were made with Oak and the peg is Maple.
More information is available on my website at https://AikiWoodworks.ca/shop-2/katana
Backyard Wine Table! While sitting by the fire or at the cabin, this table will safely hold your wine bottle and glasses with room for a "snack" tray.
Made from solid wood - usually Hickory, though other species are available. The table is 20" tall and 14" in diameter. The Hickory table weighs approximately 8 pounds, which makes it difficult for the wind to blow around.
Handmade with small tools and machinery; using mortise and tenons to connect the legs to the top; finished sanded and oiled; and all done in my small shop in Winnipeg.
Find it on my website at https://aikiwoodworks.ca/store-2/wine-table
My largest end grain cutting board so far. 12" x 18" x 1-3/8" and comes in at 7.0 pounds.
It started as a simplistic Cherry and Maple design and ended up with Purple Heart angles and a Sapele boarder.

One of the best things while making a segmented bowl is the math. This bowl has 130 pieces and 7 rings and the number of pieces per ring changed a few times as the diameter increased. It wasn't as simple as doing the math once and then cut a bunch of pieces, each ring was unique.
The next best thing became the precision of the jig to cut the segmented angles. To be able to cut a 7° angle and not have it turn out to be 7.1°.
Made from Walnut, Sapele and Maple. It is 10-1/2" in diameter and 4-1/2" tall.
Find this at https://aikiwoodworks.ca or my Etsy page at https://www.etsy.com/shop/aikiwoodworks
A walk in the woods with a 30" long shoehorn for those that can't reach their toes, or choose not to. Made with Ash and some Cherry laminated onto the handle.
Can be seen on https://AikiWoodworks.ca or on Etsy at https://AikiWoodworks.Etsy.com
The other end of the Oak log from the previous bowl. Having a bowl filled with grapes like this gets me thinking about lounging on a beach in a much warmer climate.
Corey and a couple awesome elves dropped by this morning with a bunch of cedar. All kinds of plans are swirling in my mind, just need some warmer weather.
Very happy with this live edge Oak bowl. There was a double branch crotch at the top an a small branch coming out at the lower left, plus the main branch. Making this a quadruple heart ring bowl.
Find this on https://AikiWoodworks.ca or on Etsy at https://AikiWoodworks.Etsy.com
Still have some Mandarin Oranges left over? At 7" in diameter x 4-1/2" tall, it has plenty of room
