I gotta admit Gerberas are one of my absolute favourite flowers!! Not only are they vibrant and colorful and showy, they just scream joy!
And summertime! They are so cheery and make such a powerful statement in their short little lives Something we can maybe all learn from.

This beauty is barely dry. She measures 16x20 and done in the finest acrylics possible.

I may need to make prints from this one!

My Art Journey
I started to dream about art when I was 18. My goal was not to lay on my deathbed and look back and say to “if only I learned how to paint.” Seems silly, but at the time I was very ill. Doctors said I had anorexia. But I knew I didn’t. I went off to college and studied Medical Lab Science. I signed up to Art courses (a good friend paid for them) but I didn’t feel taught. Then I met Leona Brown. I took a few classes with her. She was passionate and a great instructor! She reignited my passion. Fast forward a marriage and two children later. My son was diagnosed with Autism at age 2, my health was getting worse, my husband had diabetes with grand mal seizures, and life felt heavy and extremely overwhelming. Life was hard, real hard. My son went into Programs, my husband had seizures and somehow we braved the courage to welcome a little girl. She was healthy, relaxed and easy. In 2006, we moved to Hawaii for work where I was diagnosed with severe celiac disease. My insides were ruined. In Kalaheo, I met portrait artist Evelyn Ritter. Painting with her and my Japanese friends down by the river in Niumalu park for years helped heal me mentally and emotionally while I struggled to heal physically. She made everything make sense and gave me so much clarity. She was absolutely pivotal in developing my artistic style. We spent 5 years in Hawaii and I grew to love the inspiration of Hawaii. I won an award for Best in Show for my coconut oil painting at the Kauai county fair. In 2011, we returned home to Canada, and I needed to work full time in Lab science. I’m still working full time, I paint on the evenings and weekends. I’ve switched to Acrylic paint. I continue to take courses on line with Ali Kay from Tennessee. She is helping me loosen up and learn a different technique. I’ve been studying her technique for the last year……AND most importantly my health is back on track and I feel better than ever!!
I’ve recently been invited to join the MSA -Manitoba Society of Artists, Cre8ery Art Studio and have been accepted as an exhibitor at the 2025 Winnipeg Fine Art Fair. I will be having exhibitions in the near future with these organizations.

I wasn’t feeling well so I stayed home from work today. I’ve had diagnosed celiac disease for 18 years now and am generally pretty healthy. Last night my kids came for dinner and we ordered Chinese food from our favourite local place. The food is always delicious and I’ve never had any problems with any cross contamination. I guess it was different this time and my overactive immune system reacted telling me it wasn’t pleased. Even when I'm feeling crummy, it's really hard for me to rest and my husband isn’t around to make me. So as usual, I have a few paintings on the go, including one commission but I focused on this one for a bit today and I'm liking how it's coming along.

Exciting news! Early spring I submitted 5-6 (or more) original pieces of art to a Manitoba Society of Artist jury panel for review. Received notification today that I was accepted!

I’ll find out what all that entails shortly I presume!

Foggy morning paddle
12x12

I’m taking an online painting course to loosen my brushstrokes. The photo presented in the class for painting reminded me so much of my 2 years living in BC back in the day when I was in college. And then seeing an old college friend buy a lakefront dream home and watching his stand up paddle boarding photos creep up on social media. It really is enough to make a girl drool. Here is a frosty foggy morning with a paddler enjoying an early spring thaw.

Cute rubber boots and jumping in puddles! Some very sweet moments yourself as a child or making current memories with your children or grandchildren. It’s so fun seeing the little ones outside playing in the puddles after a very long winter! Spring is here! Splash Splash!

Cacti in Pots
10x10

This photo hit me in the feels in so many different ways. A Canadian living in Hawaii for 5 years. We lived on the drier southwest side of the island and our next door neighbour had a giant cacti in her back yard. The plant and budding flowers were just so lovely. But one of our favourite family vacations was to Palm Springs with Grandma and my husband's brother and his family. We rented homes in a restricted Golf and Country Club Resort in Indio. I had never been to the “desert” before and so was really looking forward to a change of scenery. We visited Joshua Tree National Park and we were just immediately transported into a totally different type of landscape than we had ever seen before. Massive Boulder formations, giant cacti, and who could forget the deceptive looking “teddy bear” jumping Cholla and the fear we had trying to resist touching it.

Sunset Skiers

Nighttime skiers
8x10
I’ve downhill skied both in La Rivière, Manitoba and in Sunshine Village, Banff, Alberta. To be honest, I’m not great. Or even that good, really. I wasn’t born with much athletic ability. The passion was there, but not one muscle in my body knew how to respond and I almost always ended up hurting myself snowplowing down the green runs of the mountain. It’s not something I’ve continued to pursue and thankfully my hubby isn’t into it.
I, do however, love the idea of it, and of skiing at sunset or early morning. The backlit skiers reaching the summit along with the warmth from the rising sun.

It’s much safer to paint it! 😂
