An update, some clarification ish, a new direction, lots of change...

South Studio will be closing its studio to evening classes.

Morning Slow Flow classes (all levels) will still be held at
7am and 9:45am M - F
plus Saturdays at 9am
May + June
at South Studio

All existing passes and memberships are welcome and newcomers looking for a morning yoga routine this Spring..a pass is only $50 to join us

Come July, that will be a goodbye for me in this studio. The Summer will bring great change and much needed family-time and rest.

Members who have pre paid passes and memberships that expire past June 30, If I have not spoken with you personally about your options, please know I am trying to get through all your profiles and emails and see what i can do. My intended offer is unavailable and I am still unsure where I will be but plan on updating you again, very soon.

Special Olympics Manitoba (SOM). SOM provides year-round sport and wellness opportunities for Manitobans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At the end of February, a group of 58 talented Manitoba athletes with intellectual disabilities will be travelling to Calgary to compete on the national stage at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games. Our February Karma classes and fund will go towards helping

Beginning August 8th we will have Rise + Shine classes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at 7:00am!

This beautifully balanced class will be a mix of flowing movement and deep stretch to open and energize your body for the day ahead!

Have you ever heard a teacher say “The yoga pose you avoid the most, you need the most.” While there are definitely exceptions of postures that should be avoided due to certain contraindications, there is some truth to it. Often postures we might dread, expose weaknesses or emotional blocks in our bodies. However by facing these postures head on with proper alignment, we can build strength, explore new openings, and move through blocks that hold us back.

Just a gentle reminder that while we LOVE seeing you all connecting, please respect that the studio space is a quiet zone. The front lobby, however, is conversation central! So, if you enjoy that time to sit in stillness, feel free to roll out your mat in the studio and chill. But if you love getting to socialize before and after class, grab a seat at the front bench to chat with all your studio friends!

The classes have been growing in numbers, but more importantly, so has this emerging beautiful community! South Studio opened its doors just shortly before the world-wide pandemic hit, so while there was a core group of students from the very beginning, we’ve been absolutely loving seeing new faces everyday! Witnessing the connections made and community building before and after each class has been pure joy!

To put it simply, Meditation is a practice of training the mind to focus and become more aware of the present moment. While there are many different types of meditation, each with its own specific techniques and goals, the underlying principles are generally the same - to develop mindfulness, calm the mind, and cultivate a greater sense of inner peace and well-being.

Here are some of the most common types:

1. Mindfulness Meditation: This involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment, often by focusing on the breath or body sensations.
2. Mantra Meditation: This involves using a mantra (statement or word) or sound to help the mind enter a state of deep relaxation and awareness.
3. Guided Meditation: This involves listening to a teacher or recording that guides you through a specific meditation practice.

While there are many types of meditation that exist, it’s important to find a practice that resonates with you and to approach it with an open and curious mind. Once you find a style that you connect with, try setting a context for your practice. Whether that’s a specific time or place. Perhaps it’s creating a special corner in your home, or lighting a candle, or playing certain music. While none of these things are needed for meditation, it can help to begin to create a framework for your practice to grow!

With the arrival of spring we often feel a palpable sense of feeling pulled outward. While this, more often than not, is quite a joyful experience, let it also serve as a reminder to move inward. Setting roots in practices such as meditation, can keep us grounded within this outward expression.

As some of you may have already noticed or attended, we’ve added a Meditation and Pranayama class to our Monday schedule. This 45 minute class with Noah will give you the opportunity to try these practices for yourself.

During these classes we have been exploring the connection to the breath and Chitta (heart/mind) as a means to dive deeper into meditative states of Awareness.

Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is a deeply healing practice intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.

Yoga Nidra slows the wavelengths in your mind as you enter a sleep-like state. The experience often starts with sensing the body and mindfully breathing to trigger the relaxation response in your body.

Meet the Teacher: Sam Manchulenko

Sam is a yogi, dancer, adventurer and lover of life.
She completed her first 500 hr yoga teacher training in India, then went on to train and complete trainings with Shiva Rea, Ashtanga-inspired One Yoga Teacher training, Anusara Immersion, and Seane Corn before finding her teacher Sri Dharma Mittra.  

Sam created the 200 hour Abhyasa Living Yoga Teacher Training Program to support students with a desire to live their yoga practice 24/7 and share the path with others.
