"Hello, my name is Anpetu Waste Ihinape Win - There is a Good Day Coming, and my English name is Sophia Smoke. I come from the Dakota Plains Wahpeton Oyate. I am 16 years old. My father is Chief Donny Smoke and my mother is Joan Smoke. My paternal grandparents are the late Chief Orville of Dakota Plains Wahpeton Oyate and Donna Pratt of Wipazoka Wakpa. My maternal grandparents are Orville West and Colleen West of Sandy Bay Ojibway Nation. I shake all of your hands with a good heart.
I am running for Miss Manito Ahbee because I want to show others that, no matter what, if you set your mind to something, you can achieve it. I strive to be a good role model to all young Indigenous girls, showing that we are not confined to the standardized mould that the world has created for us."
Sophia is a Grade 11 student from the Dakota Plains First Nation in Manitoba. She is a CBC Kids contributor, an accomplished jingle dress dancer, and she is passionate about the revitalization of Indigenous culture.
Please show some love for our outgoing Miss Manito Ahbee Serene Goodwill and our incoming youth ambassador Sophia Smoke!
