On 𝟏𝟒 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟏 – 10 years after the introduction of the law against gender discrimination – almost half a million Swiss women and men took to the streets to demand equal rights and safer workspaces. Where do we stand today? 30 years later, precarious audiovisual jobs continue to be mainly carried out by women and workplaces are still unsafe. So let's continue the strike!
Also wir bleiben dran!

‼️ Winter Palace ‼️
For several days now, allegations of s*xual harassment on the set of 'Winter Palace' have been shaking up Swiss cinema, and we would like to give some context on the matter.
Shortly before Christmas, rumors started to spread about s*xual harassment allegations on set of “Winter Palace”, the new series coproduced by Point Prod, RTS and Netflix. As early as January, two journalists approached SWAN with questions regarding the allegations but only six months later in May the articles were published.
Despite taking some measures, Point Prod is not openly addressing the situation and the victims have not officially come out.
Due to the lack of a legal basis, SWAN's options for responding effectively to this case are limited but we are hoping this case will bring awareness to s*xual harassment cases in the Swiss film industry and make production companies prioritise the safety of their employees.
We extend our love and solidarity to all victims, who are encouraged to reach out to us at any time.

The Swiss film industry is currently faced with a shortage of female workers, such as assistants to directors and producers on-set. Is this situation the result of an unattractive and gendered work culture, steeped in hierarchies?
To address these current topics, SWAN Swiss Women's Audiovisual Network has teamed up with 23bis and the Solothurner Filmtage - Journées de Soleure - Giornate di Soletta to host the panel discussion 𝐒𝐎 𝐏𝐑𝐎 & 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐈𝐈: 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐲, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, during the Industry Days “SO PRO” of the 59th edition of the Solothurn Film Festival.

The new tool by FemaleAct is out!
Designed to calculate the child-care costs supported by artists while they are at work, it aims at raising awareness of the compatibility between work and family life for people in the industry.
Try it out (for German speakers) ☞ https://femaleact.ch/kalkulator
Yay!
FemaleAct is very proud to announce the upcoming release of their "calculator", a tool which will be available online on their website and is designed to provide a black-and-white visualization of possible care costs incurred by performing artists.
Many people in the performing arts do not work on regular hours. Unfortunately, subsidized child care, for example, is only intended for weekdays from 8am to 5pm. But during evenings, weekends or holidays, the costs must be borne by the artists alone. This calculator was developed to help them make their costs visible to employers.
Dr. Andrea Zimmermann will present her research on the topic at the launch event and exclusively share the current status of one of her projects. Feel welcome to attend!
The event will take place on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 12h to 13h on livetream via Zoom or in-person in Toni-Areal, Pfingstweidstrasse 96, 8005 Zürich (Room 4.T06).
