Description: My name is Jackie and I graduated from Cal in 2020 with a degree in Nutritional Science, Dietetics. I have always been passionate about nutrition since I grew up playing sports, but when I first got to Cal I had no idea there was a whole field I could pursue in it. I came in intended Public Health since I knew I was interested in healthcare but wasn’t 100% sold on the “put a bandaid on the problem” that healthcare so often is in this country. However, after I took NST 10 my freshmen year I knew I had found my niche. During my undergrad, I was involved in various clinical research projects (at Alta Bates, UCSF Benioff, and one summer at NYU Langone). To me, clinical research appealed to me the most because of the patient/people-facing side of it. I also spent a semester interning at the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market for a non-profit that provides nutrition/cooking classes for local elementary schools. Upon my graduation from Cal, I started my dietetic internship at UCSF where I really got to explore the world of clinical nutrition (also during a pandemic, which was a whole added layer in itself). I really enjoyed the acuity of patient care I was able to provide even as an intern and knew that I wanted to work clinically after the internship to continue getting more experience with all patient populations. Since finishing my internship (July 2021), I have started working full-time as a float at Stanford. So far I have loved it as it has given me the experience and opportunities I was really hoping for early in my career to continue learning and growing as a clinical dietitian.
