Cobras vs Sheds today 🤷🏻♂️
THE 8 MEN OF COVE BATTLE BACK
Cove entered todays fixtures versus top 4 rivals Blue Lamp United. A fixture that saw both sides take a share of the points in a 2-2 draw last time these sides faced each other.
The deadlock couldn’t be broken from either team as both battled out for the opener. Cove seemed to be rattled by Blue Lamp United and rather than goals it was bookings Cove collected. MILNE was played through with a perfectly waited pass from HARPER where his deflected shot was sent looping over the helpless Lamp Keeper. 1-0.
Both MILNE and IFI were cautioned early on which questioned how Cove would approach the remainder of the game, with only a couple substitutions available. It was Lamp that bounced back only five minutes after Cove’s opener. TOUGH misjudged the timing of his tackle and was adjudged to have fouled the Lamp Attacker. Penalty 1-1.
After taking the lead first in the game Cove were left frustrated as we struck half time going in level.
HT 1-1
IFI stupidly got caught up in an off the ball battle and seen a second yellow. Very harsh for the Cove Defender but his team were now reduced to 10. Unfortunately the free kick then lead to Lamp taking the lead after a failed clearance was knocked passed TOUGH. 1-2.
GOVE then stepped up and struck a venomous free kick at the Lamp Keeper who could only spill to the feet of VAUGHAN. 2-2.
It was ROONEY, K.FINDLAY and SOMERS who very much set the tone for the game. The composure on the ball and tireless clearances made for a fantastic defence to any attacks Lamp threatened.
Furthermore K.FINDLAY then found himself up for a corner where it met the forehead of the Cove Defender and passed the Lamp Keeper. 3-2, 10 Men? Your god damn right.
Evidently after being reduced to 10 men Cove tired and MILNE didn’t help matters. A second yellow lead to him being dismissed left Cove with only 9 men and just the one goal lead.
Surely Lamp Manager Paton can take advantage? ⏰🤣
Cove done all they could to slow the game and it didn’t pay off. HARPER then seen a second yellow for time wasting a consistent fouling which left Cove with only 8 men.
Although Cove lead 3-2 it was backs to the wall and they had both ROONEY and K.FINDLAY to thank for the Lamp chances being cut out.
Lamp threw everything they had at Cove with the keeper up for a corner. However the ball dropped to K.WHIFFIN who calmly slotted the ball from the half way line into the Lamp net. 4-2. GAME OVER.
A massive night for Cove as the charge for top 4 continues. A great display of determination and grit. Something our fans very much appreciated as they turned out in they’re hundreds. 🚀

A TALE OF TWO HALFS 📝
With one game remaining before the official split of the league takes place Cove were still to face a rather depleted Granite Thistle side. A win would give Cove every chance of finishing the season in the top half, a big achievement for Knobby and Co.
Cove still looked half asleep with numerous misplaced passes and slack communication, it wasn’t long before Granite capitalised. TOUGH left bemused by his sides defending when the Granite Striker slipped one past the Cove No 1. 0-1.
Another ball into the same Granite Striker caused Cove all sorts of problems in which ROONEY fouled in the box, resulting in both a Penalty to Granite and also a very sceptical Red Card. Granite made it 0-2 from the spot with a cool finish passed TOUGH.
Although Cove were down to 10 men and 2 goals they never looked out of the game. The wind had a huge part to play in the way both teams approached the game and it was only a matter of time before Cove adapted.
Fantastic work by both GOVE and VAUGHAN who have linked up really well since the beginning of their partnership up top. Cove pulled one back before the first half whistle, great composed finish by VAUGHAN.
HT 1-2
Cove knew the conditions they faced in the first half would be completely different in the second. Something they used to they’re advantage and boy did it show.
IFI dropped back into Centre Half along side K.FINDLAY after the Red Card. Granite struggled to get the ball down and play, much like Cove in the first half. The high line of Cove allowed for Granite to go long resulting in possession being lost each time.
Much like Cove’s first, great interlinking play this time between HARPER and GOVE saw GOVE slip one past the Granite Keeper to level the scoring. 2-2.
HARPER who was shifted up top after a tactical move by Knobby and Co soon silenced the doubters (Dylan Duncan). HARPER followed up from a VAUGHAN strike and neatly nutmegged the Granite Keeper to make it 3-2 to the 10 men of Cove.
Cove never looked a man down the entire second half whether that was down to the hard work in the middle of the park between DOUGLAS and ROSS or the strong defensive line.
MIDDLETON placed himself over a free kick in which he delivered a cracking delivery over the top to find HARPER. Left unmarked HARPER improvised and half volleyed the ball off the post and past the Granite Keeper. 4-2.
With the job almost done BOYNE followed up a loose pass from the Granite defence and slipped one past the Granite Keeper. Great finish and Game Over. 5-2.
A great result for Cove playing the majority of the game with 10 men. A statement made. “Talk Less Do More” Knobby on Granite Midfielder Dylan Duncan. ⚰️

Cove Cobras 8-0 Bucksburn Thistle
Cove were looking to go through into the next round of the Jim Lumsden Cup following a 5-0 win the last time these two sides met. A windy day down at Seaton as it was Cove that got us underway.
An early goal from MILNE set the pace for the day as Cove were off to a flying start, in the hope they would be in the hat for the next round. It was evident from the opening minutes that this was to be a complete image of the first time these two sides met back in the League.
The midfield trio of MALCOLM, ROSS and HARPER allowed for Cove to set a high line and continue to mount pressure on Bucksburn. Allowing MILNE to play the Free Roam role with VAUGHAN and GOVE up in support. GOVE soon found himself on the scoresheet minutes after Cove’s first. Fantastic awareness to then slot it passed the helpless Bucksburn Keeper.
Great interlinking play between SOMERS and HARPER led to a fantastic low driven ball across the box for VAUGHAN to tap in however the offside was called. Bucksburn were struggling to understand Cove’s tactics as Cove looked to get on the scoresheet on every attack.
The Bucksburn Keeper pulled of numerous saves to keep the scoring low before half time however it was GOVE that got his double and third for Cove from the Pen Spot. Brilliant play from KINGHORN in and around the box to win his side the Spot Kick.
Cove continued to dominate as MILNE pushed on and found his 2nd making it 4-0 just minutes before the end of the first half.
HT 4-0
MILNE soon enough found his hat trick for the day and was well deserved for his efforts. 5-0. Much like the first time these sides met the defensive line of Cove was unbothered all game. Not the greatest for Keeper Tough on a windy day.
As the high press continued a ball over to GOVE found himself round the keeper to give him the hat trick and make it 6-0 to Cove.
HARPER unlucky not to get a goal himself done brilliantly down the left hand side before squaring the ball across to LESLIE who had a tap in to make it 7-0 for the day.
A.WHIFFIN soon put his stamp of the game after taking a superb touch in the center of the pitch. He found himself with some room before hitting a fantastic volley to give himself another screamer to add to the collection along with a new celebration.
All round fantastic performance. A game where it would have been very easy to switch off and concede Cove remained strong and now find themselves in the hat for the next round.
FT 8-0
Special mention to both SOMERS and ROSS who worked tirelessly all game and allowed for Cove to dominate from start to finish.

Cove Cobras 3-1 Malibu
Cove looked to capitalise on last weeks impressive fight back vs Golden Tee in todays fixture against Malibu. Another side placed in and around the middle of the table Cove required all 3 points to push for that top half finish before the split.
With Dry January almost coming to an end Cove managed to whittle together a squad of 15 boys for todays game with Manager Knobby in attendance after a sleepless night 😂
It was evident in the opening minutes that the stronger side was Cove who played some neat football all across the pitch. KINGHORN produced a fantastic ball to VAUGHAN who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted it home for 1-0. Almost a mirror image of the first it was GOVE who rounded the keeper this time to only just miss the target to put Cove 2 goals clear.
Within minutes GOVE bounced back from his earlier miss and slotted one home after an unselfish through all from SMITH. The creativity from SMITH was causing Malibu all sorts of problems for Malibu. However the half finished 2-0 Cove. A strong start to todays game.
HT 2-0
Although Cove started the second half the better of the two teams a poorly defended set piece led to a goal 10 minutes into the second half to give Malibu a lifeline.
A counter attack from FINDLAY set the ball wide to LESLIE who found the overlap of KINGHORN who swung a superb ball into A.WHIFFIN who finishes superbly. Not quite the same as last weeks but on the scoresheet again.
Overall a fantastic shift from the lads to secure another 3 points.

*Cove Cobras 5-1 Golden Tee*
After last weeks disappointing result to North Star Inverdee, Cove looked to bounce back against todays opponents Golden Tee. Tough conditions out at Hazelhead made it difficult for both teams to get the ball down and work however it was Golden Tee who struck first. A curling effort from the corner kick saw it leap over keeper TOUGH and give the visitors the lead. 0-1.
In what looked to be a repeat of last week’s performance Cove couldn’t find the breakthrough. Multiple chances coming and going without Cove really taking a grip on the game the half finished 0-1.
HT 0-1
An absolute masterclass from Knobby during the half time team talk lifted spirits for the Cove lads who came out firing from all cylinders in the second half.
The ball dropped kindly for HARPER at the edge of the box who struck a powerful shot above the Golden Tee Keeper’s head. 1-1. GAME ON.
Cove began to show dominance in the game and it was only a matter of time before they capitalised again. HARPER played an over the top ball which found GOVE who then nicely set up MALCOLM to make it 2-1. Great link up play between the two front men.
The back four were faultless all game however it was CURRIE who set the tone with his composure on the ball throughout. Fantastic work again by GOVE who put it on a plate for K. Whiffin to slot it home for his first of the game and Cove’s third. 3-1.
Knobby perfected his substitutions today however one made for special mention. Sir Adam Whiffin was seen in control of the ball around the 40 yard mark, he proceeded to nutmeg the Golden Tee Defender before firing what could only be described as a rocket into the top corner of the goal. Possibly the best goal in Sunday League Football by a good distance. 4-1.
Great bounce back from last week and another big 3 points as the lads look to finish in the top half of the table this debut season.

FT LEAGUE RESULT
Cove Cobras 5-0 Bucksburn Thistle
After a much needed rest over the Christmas and New Year holidays the boys made the short trip over to Balmoral Stadium, home to Cove Rangers FC. A last minute decision from Gaffer Knobby meant for a slightly later kick off of 12:30 which seen thousands turn out for the Cobras first game of the year.
It was evident in the opening minutes of the game that the gulf between the two sides was rather large. Stand in goalkeeper DURNO was left unbothered as Cove had flurries of attacks down mainly the left hand side of both GOVE and KINGHORN.
Nice footwork from GOVE seen him brought down and dispatch the penalty to give Cove an early lead. 1-0. After an impressive 28 minutes A. FINDLAY (Relation to K. FINDLAY) debut for the club came to a halt as the man collapsed on the pitch and was seen crying for help. AMBULANCE 😬
Cove made a slight re-shuffle and got back to business with IFI gliding through the middle of the park and firing home past the Bucksburn Thistle Keeper. 2-0.
Almost a mirror image of his last goal IFI once again was free’d by ROSS who ventured forward and caused chaos in the Bucksburn box, before picking out the opposite corner to make it 3-0.
HT 3-0.
Cove left off where they started and began to get more joy down the right hand side. HARPER tormented the left back of Bucksburn Thistle forcing him off for the sub to receive the same doing also.
Brilliant work rate from HARPER saw him win possession back before squaring across for MALCOLM to finish on second attempt to grab his first goal in the game. 4-0.
A deep cross into the box by HARPER was met by numerous bodies before KINGHORN fired home much to the joy of his girlfriend and life long Cobras fan.
A good day at the office for the boys however DURNO, ROONEY AND GIBSON have had busier days.
