Happy Halloween!! π»ππ»π
Halloween is a fun and exciting time, however for older people, particularly those with dementia, it can be a scary and stressful time. So if your loved one is feeling unsure about the evening of Halloween make sure to set up an appropriate plan to make them feel as safe as possible
Halloween is around the corner so we've come up with a few cheap and easy Halloween decorations for you to try with your loved ones.
1. Boo Bottles
You'll need empty glass bottles, white spray paint and black marker. First, remove the labels and caps from your bottles. Spray-paint them white, then leave them to dry. Once dry draw on spooky faces with the black marker.
2. Cotton Ball Ghosts
You'll need cotton balls, black and white card. For this decoration simply cut out a ghost shape using white card and stick the cotton ball to the card. Than cut out 2 eyes and a mouth of the ghost, finally sticking them on to complete.
3. Toilet Paper Roll Bats
You'll need toilet paper roles, black card and googly eyes. wrap black card around the toilet roles (or paint it black). Cut out some bat wings to stick to the body then add the googly eyes.
4. Spider jar
You'll need a jar, black paint, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. Paint the jar black and let it dry. Once dry attach the pipe cleaners to the side and the googly eyes to the front - remember to put on 8.

It's National Pepperoni Pizza day!! π
A healthy and balanced diet is essential for everyone, but it's even more important for older adult. However, with dementia it can make it harder to eat and drink well. A person with dementia may not eat and drink for many different reasons, one way to support them to eat and drink, preventing weight loss, is to stick to familiar and favourite foods and what's better than pizza. ππ
We've attached a recipe to try with friends or family, particularly for when the days get colder. π

This year we launched our own Monday Melodies, which takes place at the Aylesbury Library. It is an opportunity for isolated older adults to get out and about, make new friends, and have a sing-along, all with drinks and cake kindly provided by the Waitrose in Aylesbury.
We have had some lovely students from the UTC come to support our amazing Care Professionals and help run the event smoothly. A big thank you to the students at the UTC, who did a wonderful job at engaging with the guests and joining in with the activities.
If anyone is interested in joining in, Monday Melodies will restart in September, after the summer break.
Today is National Joke Day!! π€£π€£
Older adults can sometimes struggle to connect with other people, particularly if they have dementia or alzheimers, but a joke can be a way for them to communicate and connect with people around them.
Comment below your favourite (appropriate) joke. π
As we're now well into the summer, we have made a list of dementia friendly activities to do over the summer.

5. A fun day out

Today is National Book Lovers Day!! π
Reading is one of the best ways to exercise your brain, while relaxing and reducing stress. The same goes for people with dementia, reading or being read to can help older people relax and de-stress all the while engaging the brain.
Comment below your favourite book and any reading suggestions π
Falls and Fractures π
30% of people ages 65+ will suffer at least one fall a year. As we age, our risk increases, as does the chance of secondary falls and long term injuries.
We have come up with a list of things you can do to reduce this risk which includes:
- Remove clutter from pathways
- Arrange furniture to make room for wider pathways
- Remove or secure rugs, in particular the corners
- Encourage shoes / socks with non-slip soles
- Allow plenty of time for activities
- Ask for assistance when reaching things from high shelves
- Make sure living areas and stairways are well lit
We had an amazing turnout last Monday Melodies. π Many new faces came to join in for the singing and dancing. We hope everyone who came enjoyed their time and the snacks and chats. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again on the 9th of September.
Thank you to the UTC students who help host our community event in the Aylesbury library and support everyone who comes to join in.
Happy National Parent's Day!!! ππ
Parents are a big part of our lives and they make us who we are, like it or not. π€£π€£ Today is celebrating all the parents out there, so we've collected a little montage of pictures from Care Givers and clients who all deserve a shout out for being wonderful parents.
It's National Ice Cream Day!!! π Although July hasn't been our typical summer, it's important to take advantage of the sun when it comes out, and that means ice cream, so here's a recipie if you're a keen cooker or just want to give it a go. π¨π¦
Comment below your favourite flavour of ice cream. π
Another wonderful turnout at our most recent Monday Melodies. π We hope that everyone had an amazing time and enjoyed the company and the biscuits.
