Jazz at the Centre

First concert of this season will be the Roaring Twenties Jazz Band on 11 Oct 2024.

Well thankfully the snow has completely cleared in Darfield and the drizzle has returned 🤣😂 however there are some roadworks close to Darfield Community Centre for tonight’s gig so please approach as indicated on the map below. See you all later 👍🏼
This month it’s the Dearne Big Band but more importantly it’s also the Barnsley Youth Jazz Orchestra. It’s a band where children and young adults learn an instrument, learn how to function as a musician in a band and learn how to get along with other people and pull together as a team.
Formed in 1978 and still running today the Dearne Big Band is where so many of us had our musical upbringing and without it would not be doing what we’re doing today musically.
I hope you’ll come along and support the evening. No one who plays in the band takes a fee and all monies are ploughed directly back into supporting the youngsters.
Tickets £7.50 in advance or £10 on the door. 8pm start and please bring your own tipples and nibbles 😀🎤🎺🎷🎻🪕🥁😀

Hi Everyone, please think about having a run to Leeds Jazz Club on a Tuesday evening, they have a wide variety of bands and a lot of hard work goes into making that happen. As we’ve said before it’s a use it or lose it situation 👍🏼
Hi Everyone,
After a long conversation we think on balance that the safest thing to do for both the band and the audience is to cancel tomorrow nights Jazz at the Centre. Whilst it might be closer to rain in the Darfield lowlands I know from others that there are some decent depths of snow out there.
We'll look to get the Worth Valley Hot Seven (and Ruth) booked in again early on in the next season of concerts. I was really looking forward to bring the West Yorkshire contingent into the South !!
I can't stress this enough but thank you all, audience, bands & Darfield Community Centre and Great Houghton Welfare Hall (who had us whilst the works were carried out at Darfield) so much for your support since October. We're already contemplating how to tackle the next season.
Cheers for now
Andy & Dave.
Thanks to Washington Whirligig , Bob Ludlam and everyone who came along to last nights Jazz at the Centre. A fun filled night with laughs a plenty :-) The next session is on Friday 10 March 23 with the Worth Valley Hot 7 and singer Ruth Gardziel

Hi everyone, and thanks to all those who have already booked in with us for the 9th Dec session. For this session we’re in a different location as “The Centre” is being rewired so we will be at Great Houghton Welfare Hall S72 0EG just a couple of miles away from our regular venue.
