The New Year is here and it often brings with it the inevitable mindset in some people of “new year, new me”

🧐What should that “new me” actually look like?
🧐Who decides?
🧐Should I be thin?

🧐Should I have muscles or is that manly?
🧐Should a women be curvy?
🧐Should I wear make up?
🧐Is it okay to have wrinkles?

How many of you remember a time when your friend turns to you and says she hates her body?
Do you tell her she should? Do you tell her she’s gross? Do you remind her how good she used to be?
We BET YOU WOULD NEVER SAY those things to your friend. The thoughts wouldn’t even cross your mind. Yet somehow, you don’t give yourself the same treatment and that’s what NEEDS TO STOP. ⚠️

Body trends will come and go, but self-love doesn’t have to.😍

We often hear women saying that they want to be a stone or 3 stone lighter, like they were 10-15 years ago. That they want to be that person again and that they aren’t happy with what they see in the mirror. Isn’t it strange that we don’t wish to look forward but are happy in looking back?

Are you an APPLE or a PEAR? 🍎🍐

In case you're new to the whole concept of Apples & Pears, here's a little explanation...

Your BODY SHAPE is a blueprint of your long term hormonal balance. The shape you are literally tells us what NUTRITION and EXERCISE you should be doing, to get the best results.

APPLE SHAPE 🍎 ...if you’re storing more body fat around your waist, back, abdomen, “love handles” this is all about the hormones INSULIN & CORTISOL. So you don’t handle sugars or starches well and will benefit from low carb nutrition. Your training needs to be high intensity to improve insulin sensitivity.

PEAR SHAPE 🍐 if your “problem areas” are your thighs, hips & bum then your shape is an indication of OESTROGEN dominance. Your nutrition needs to focus on improving liver and gut function to effectively metabolise and eliminate oestrogen. So high fibre, low/no alcohol, low/no dairy, slow-releasing whole grains and plenty of dark green leafy vegetables.

Looking for a delicious, healthy, quick and easy to make curry to enjoy this weekend?.....look no further 👀

VEGAN THAI TOFU CURRY

Packed full of colour, flavour and veggies this is the perfect comforting dinner to share with family and friends. It will feed 4 for well under £10 and is extremely easy to make!

You’re going to absolutely love this Thai Tofu Curry as it’s:
✅Easy
✅Warming
✅Versatile
✅One-pot
✅Ready in 20 mins
✅Gluten free & Vegan

All you need to make this Thai Tofu Curry are these simple ingredients that you can get from most supermarkets.

Ingredients:
🧅1 red onion sliced
🧄2 garlic cloves crushed
▢Thumb sized piece of ginger finely chopped
▢1 lemongrass stalk (prep instructions below)
▢1 tsp ground coriander
▢1/2 tsp paprika
▢1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
🌶1 red chilli deseeded and chopped
▢400 g firm tofu pressed and chopped into chunks
▢1 red pepper roughly chopped
🥦1 head of broccoli
▢1 400g can chickpeas drained and rinsed
🥥2 400ml cans coconut milk
▢1 tbsp tamari
▢Handful fresh basil
▢Handful mangetout
▢Handful spinach

Method:
- Heat a pan with olive oil or coconut oil and add in the onion, garlic, ginger, spices, red chilli and the lemongrass (chop the ends off bash with the side of your knife and slice down the middle from top to bottom, this releases all the flavour) and fry together for a couple mins.

- Now add the chopped tofu, broccoli, pepper and fry for a further minute
Add the chickpeas, coconut milk and Tamari and stir. Allow this to cook on a medium heat for around 8-10 minutes.

- Finally add the basil, mange tout and spinach to wilt down and it’s ready to serve (remove the lemon grass stalk before serving)

- Serve with brown rice, quinoa or just serve in a bowl on it’s own.

FAT DOES NOT = BODY FAT ✅Surprised? Read below to find out more ⬇️

-Carbohydrates: When you eat carbohydrates, your body can burn them for energy, store them as glycogen, burn them off as heat or turn them into fat.

-Protein: When you eat protein, your body can use protein for protein synthesis and many other metabolic purposes, burn it for energy or rarely, turn it into glucose or fat.

-Fat: When you eat fat, your body will either burn it for energy or store it as body fat.

We know that fat DOES contain more calories per gram than protein or carbohydrate and so it can be easy to overeat fat and therefore calories however it is important to note that fat actually increases satiety.

Medium chain triglycerides found in butter and coconut oil activate appetite-suppressing hormones and slow stomach emptying so you feel fuller for longer.

The issue we have today is that people are eating more processed foods.

🍔🍟🍕🍼🍪Junk food is specifically designed to be addictive, so it overrides that natural feeling of fullness to make you keep eating; cookies, pastries, cakes…Fat coupled with sugars and processed carbs is a deadly combination that influences your metabolism in a negative way. ICE CREAM really is the queen of fat and sugar combined which is why a spoonful tends to lead to a whole tub being consumed!

Naturally-occurring fat from whole foods will help satisfy your hunger needs and prevent you from overeating in a specific period.

Pay attention to your appetite and don’t overwhelm it with foods designed to be addictive and remember, total calorie intake does not automatically increase just because more of it comes from fat!

Magnesium, why is it vital for your health and wellbeing? 🌱

1- Magnesium is an important player in many of the bodies processes that allow you to take protein and convert it into the chemical that helps you to feel sleepy. 😴

2- Magnesium helps the body maintain levels of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter that is responsible for “turning off” wakefulness.

3- It helps calm the nervous system down, helping it work more efficiently.

4- Magnesium also plays a role in muscle relaxation and nerve function. Magnesium is often a supplement used to help people with managing symptoms of restless leg syndrome.

➡️The recommended dietary allowance for magnesium when used for sleep or general health is 310 milligrams per day.

➡️Magnesium is not classified as a sleep aid, so you do not need to worry about what time to take it before bed. It won't knock you out but it can help to calm and relax you if taken one hour or so before you settle in for the evening.

🤓What happens if you go over the recommended dosage?
Some people may need more and others may be very sensitive to magnesium, the most likely result or too much magnesium or magnesium sensitivity will be an upset stomach. In fact, milk of magnesia can be loaded in magnesium which is why it is used as a laxative.

10 Minute Peanut Butter Curry - Healthy Living James Gluten Free & Vegan Healthy Curry 23/11/2021

During our bootcamps, we teach women how to maximise their diet to ensure that they are NOURISHING and not RESTRICTING. Using recipes and templates, along with webinars on meal planning, any meal can be adapted to suit your individual body and also your personal preference! - There is no point eating food you take no enjoyment in consuming...... WHAT IS THE POINT!

Recent news stories have been focusing on climate change and plant based diets so we thought we would share with you a super quick and easy recipe which I love. I always encourage people to push their boundaries and try new recipes, foods and cuisines.

10 minute peanut butter curry (Serves 4)

Ingredients
▢2 tbsp oil
▢2 large garlic cloves crushed
▢1 red onion roughly diced
▢1 tsp paprika
▢½ tsp ground coriander
▢½ tsp cayenne pepper
▢pinch chilli flakes
▢400g can of coconut milk
▢4 tbsp peanut butter
▢2 tbsp tomato puree
▢2 400g tins of chickpeas drained
▢1 tsp veg stock (or 1 cube)
▢1 juice lime
▢handful spinach (optional)

Instructions
Prepare the red onion by roughly dicing
Heat a large pot with oil, 2 crushed garlic cloves and red onion for a minute until softened
Add the 1 tsp paprika, ½ tsp cayenne pepper, ½ tsp ground coriander, pinch chilli flakes and mix
Now add the coconut milk, 4 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp tomato puree, 2 cans drained chickpeas, veg stock powder and juice of 1 lime and stir
Cook on a high heat for 5-6 minutes until it starts to thicken
Take off the heat and add in the spinach to wilt (if using)
