Hi all!
By now, you should have recieved an email regarding our AGM. This is our most important meeting of the year where we will discuss club policy, review our progress over the year, and (most importantly!) elect our new committee for the coming year. Joining the committee is a fantastic way of shaping our society and making a difference on campus (plus it looks great on your C.V.!). Joining the committee is also one way in which you can gain Degree Plus accreditation! Currently we have, 4 committee positions available. Depending on turn out at the AGM, we may also be expanding the committee to include some new positions. Details on all of these roles can be found on the document I have attached. To run for committee, you will need to be a paid member (membership is £3). You can do this via QOL or by speaking to a committee member.
We want as many of you as possible to run for committee! Don't miss this opportunity to get stuck into student politics and make a real impact. We will follow up in the next couple of weeks with a firm date and agenda.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi all!
Just to remind everyone, we have a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 31st January, at 14.00 room 6 in the SU. Once the meeting has ended, we will be heading out to collect signatures for our referendum campaign. See you there!
Hi all, if you've seen the email I sent around, we are hosting a film and pizza night next wednesday but we need some suggestions for films. Any ideas?
Thanks to all those who came out gathering signatures last Wednesday, we managed an amazing 164 of our 650 target! We won't be having a meeting this week but we will be collecting signatures from 1:00 tomorrow instead. Drop by the SU to get invloved, or reply on here if interested.
Hi all, we are meeting in the SU at 11:00 to get people signing our petition. Hope to see you there!
We have our first campaigning day for the housing referendum coming up on Wednesday 15th November. We will be collecting signatures around campus in order to trigger a referendum in the SU. We want there to be a registry of landlords and letting agents, based on a yearly student survey, to be ran by our SU. This will enable students going into the private rental sector to make informed decisions based on a wealth of student experience and will keep rogue and irresponsible landlords in check. We need 625 signatures to trigger a referendum on this issue but we can't do it without your help. We will be out and about from 11.00-15.00 on Wednesday. If you are free to help, get yourself down, grab a clipboard and get people signing! If you can reply with your availability (even if just 20 minutes!) we can get an idea of numbers for the day. We will be meeting outside the SU and spreading out from there!
Hi all,
Just to remind you that we have a meeting today in the Boardroom, SU (3rd Floor). We have changed the time slightly to 1.30pm due to room allocation.
Dear members,
We as a society are moving to take part in the Labour Party's review of organising in Northern Ireland, to do this we must select a three person team to make our submission to the review committee. If you wish to take part DM this page asap.

We support the decriminalisation of abortion in NI. Get involved and be part of QUBSU's Project Choice by becoming a Choice Ambassador. Apply before 31 October and help us make a positive change.

Nus Usi Alliance for Choice
Hi all, the Rally for Choice is tomorrow! We will be meeting with other student groups at 1:00 in the SU foyer and heading down en masse. A few of us will be there from 12:30, armed with cardboard and sharpies, making some placards. Bring as many people as you can, let's make sure our voices are heard!
Hi guys, we are in the boardroom on Floor 3, go up to the speakeasy stairs and we're at the top on the right :)
Hi all,
Thanks to all who came to the pub crawl last week. It was a good night and was great getting to know all the new faces. This week we will have our 1st meeting of the year. Meetings are where we discuss, debate and plan for the year ahead and where you, as members, get to input on what issues we fight for and how we go about it. The time and agenda for the meeting are as follows:
Wednesday 11th October @14:00 in Club Room 5 in the SU.
1. Introductions and Welcome.
2. National Campaign (Somewhere to call home)
3. Campaign ideas and direction
4. Election of Treasurer
5. A.O.B
The Treasurer position is open to all members. If elected, you will be responsible for keeping track of and feeding back on the financial position of the society, being a co-signature on all transactions, and you will be a key member of the committee, having a big say on the functioning of the society. This is a great opportunity and we welcome anyone to put their name down. If interested, we will be holding a small hustings at the meeting so perhaps think of a few reasons why you might be the right person for the position. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Tonight some of our members went to see Ken Loach's new film 'I, Daniel Blake' at the Queen's Film Theatre.
The film follows a middle aged joiner (Daniel), who is out of work due to recently suffering a heart attack, and his difficult experiences with the ludicrous bureaucracy of the modern welfare system.
A stark exposure and indictment of this Tory government's attitude to the poor and the vulnerable, it is a brilliant but heartbreaking film that leaves you both enraged and despairing.
In a discussion after the screening it was clear that fellow viewers believed that although the film was a fantastic promotion of the issues at hand, further action must be taken to protest the terrible repercussions of the 'fit to work' scheme and assist the many underprivileged people it affects.
This film reminds us that this government is not only inadequate when it comes to protecting its citizens from poverty, but that it is actually making the problem worse.
It reminds us why we need a Labour government.
So if you do one thing this week, go and see it. For the sake of the countless Daniel Blake's out there.
Harry (Chair)
