Allow me reintroduce myself, for the new students and maybe also the old. My name is Oluwaseyi (Shay) and I’m your current VP of the Belfast Campus.
I am your go to Student Officer on the Belfast Campus, if you need any help. I work with the Student Union, which you are automatically part of, once you join Ulster University.
You can find me on campus, the office is right across the first floor of the library, I am available to speak to at any time. You can also stop me on the corridor and have a chat! I’m always happy to hear from you.
My remit is the Sustainability campaign and I’m keen on making the Belfast Campus more green by promoting the “adopt a plant” initiative. If you have ideas or want to come on board, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Welcome to the new semester and enjoy being part of the family. 💛✨

Sharing the student perspective today at the High Street Task force call for evidence!!
Points I raised included; ensuring safe walking linkage between commercial areas and uub campus, ensuring retention of the arts within the city center, (eg. They are not driven out of Belfast as investors buy gallery spaces), and the need to develop student entrepreneurship opportunities (such as Ballymena mid-town makers) around the uub area.
In addition, I highlighted the need for student housing within the city center to be incorporated into the overarching high street vision
They’ll hopefully take some of my feedback on board when developing and implementing the high street strategy!!
Another successful student panel with issues focused on including; the vision for the Belfast campus, transport and travel, and student communications.
Thanks again to our wonderful student panelists who joined both in-person and online! 😄✨🤍

Today’s Belfast society recharge was surely needed for many of us to come together to plan for our Christmas events and get to meet some other society members (and have some campus craic!)
Held on a Wednesday afternoon, it is a solid example of one of the many activities which can benefit!
Currently, your Wednesday afternoons should already be free for you to partake in activities including sports, part-time work, caring responsibilities, and student societies alongside your class, however we desire to tighten up this policy, raising awareness, to ensure it is kept free for all the reasons listed plus more!!
Remember and you’ll see us on the other campuses soon!! Also be sure to use the hashtag!!!
Encouraging to see how many people turned out to protest government inaction against climate change which also clearly sends a loud message to those at COP26 and even more locally to those at stormont that we want to see real action on this 🌱🤍💪
Special congrats to 2 UUSU student’s who spoke, Sipho and Georgia!
Here’s some of the many amazing pumpkins carved on Thursday in Belfast campus second floor hub!!
Big shout out to the George Harrison carving by Cáithlin!
Oh, and guess which one I carved, here’s a hint 😉😉
Also included in this photo dump is our abstract take on a pumpkin carving!! 🎃🎃✨
Thanks everyone who came and keep an eye out for future events we will be running!!
Chris and Michael will be in the foyer between 12-2pm on Monday and Tuesday to mark your bike on the bike register free of charge. This is a useful way to protect against bike theft and also meet your local streetbeat team!🚴♀️☀️🏘🚔👮♂️✨
“Welcome to your new University year…whether it be as a fresher or a seasoned student!
Whilst exciting, it can also be a bit daunting? I’m Michael and my colleague Chris are the dedicated officers for both Cathedral Quarter & the University. Please feel free to email us with any queries you may have, be it advice about the local area, or anything that might impact on your time within the district. We have worked for many years with both Ulster University and the Students Union… If we don’t have the answer, we’ll find someone that does!
Enjoy your time here, stay safe and work hard.

It was inspiring to be part of something larger than ourselves in the campaign on Monday past where we joined students and representatives across the country in calling on the government to tackle the lack of student housing and moreover affordable student housing in the area!
Get in touch if you’d like to be involved in any future actions to improve the student housing crisis. 🏘🪴🪧💪✨

It was a brilliant privilege to get meeting the duke and duchess of Cambridge and to lead them around our UUSU culture shock on Wednesday!
They were very down to earth people and we had a great laugh going around the stations, so much so that Prince William told me that he reckoned I “would be good fun on a night out!”
A couple of highlights were that apparently growing up, the royals used the word ‘mucker’ a lot (as in alright mucker)!
Also after guessing how to pronounce place names such as Carrickfergus in the name game, William remarked that it was quite easy to which I said that they were lucky we didn’t pick any hard ones such as Ahoghill!!
I was also sure to tell them to look me up whenever they come back!!! So here’s to hoping!!🤞👑🎉😁
These folks have now converted me into joining a sports club which will make proud!
I just hope every training session ends with a club kit night out 😎💪
Culture shock last night was as we learned, ‘good craic’!
We had a bit of everything going from flute to bagpipes, and whiskey to Tayto to Guinness! And the guess what local expressions mean was certainly educational 😜🤣
