Publication - NIHRC submission to the Council of Europe Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages - Parallel Report for the Sixth Periodic Report of the UK and NI | Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission 19/09/2024

We welcome the publication of the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages’ evaluation report on minority languages in the UK.

We also welcome that the Committee recommends, as a matter of priority, the adoption of language strategies for Irish and Ulster Scots without further delay. This reflects the recommendations made by the Commission both in our submission to the Committee and in our meeting with them during their visit to Belfast earlier this year.

This should also include further meaningful engagement with relevant stakeholders when actioning the Committee’s recommendations.
