🔴 Sullivan Scholarship: £1,000 per year x 3 years.
🔴 Megaw Scholarship: £1,500 x 1 year.
🔴 Reid-Harwood Scholarship: £800 per year x 3 years
🔴 David Russell Lappin Scholarship: £600 per year x 3 years.

📢Calling all early career researchers and PhD students📢

You are warmly invited to the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL) Pre-Conference Event!

‼️The event will be held on Wednesday 31st August from 12:00 to 17:00 in Queen’s University Belfast, Lanyon Building, Room OG.074.

The Pre-Conference event will be a day of learning, sharing and networking with fellow academics, early career researchers and PhD students.

Activities will include an informal networking session (with coffee and tea of course!), mentor-led table talks and a ‘Think With Me’ poster session, which is a chance to present your work or share your research ideas in a friendly and supportive environment.

The Peer Proofreading Forum is back!

Starting on 20th July, the forum will run every Wednesday at 4:00 – 6:00pm for 7 weeks in the Graduate School.

Facilitated by Dr Abbie Edgar, Researcher Development Consultant at the Graduate School, the first session will explore the importance of proofreading at postgraduate level. It will include a moment of reflection for students to think about their writing practice and common errors.

Final year French & Portuguese student, Ana Torres, is the winner of the prestigious Camões Institute 2022 Award for Best Final Year Student of Portuguese in the UK! Ana will receive her award at a ceremony held at the Portuguese Embassy, in London, on the 8th of July 2022.

Final year students in Professor McCusker's Caribbean Cultures module were delighted this week to talk to Dr Emily Zobel Marshall , granddaughter of Joseph Zobel and Reader in Postcolonial Literature at Leeds Beckett.

We discussed Emily's relationship with her grandfather, the importance of La Rue Cases-Nègres in Caribbean literature, and the pernicious effects of the pigmentocracy.

We also reflected on the continuing legacies of slavery, all highly relevant against the backdrop of Kate and William's tour in Barbados. Thanks so very much to Emily for her fascinating insights
