23 March marks the National Day of Reflection, ran by Marie Curie UK - a day to remember and reflect on our loved ones that we have lost. All of us at the university have been affected by loss in some way, especially in the past 2 years. Whether you are grieving someone who has passed recently, or years ago, taking a moment to reflect is how we keep their memories alive and with us. There will be a Wall of Reflection in the Junction Café from 23 March-1 April where you can spend a moment out of your busy day to reflect on those near and dear to us that we have lost.
Information on how to get support and further participate in the National Day of Reflection will be available at the wall.
Daffodil pins in support of Marie Curie’s Daffodil Appeal are available at the Junction Café, Hope Café, Welcome Centre and the MBC Café until the end of March.
Congratulations to our fantastic dedicated team who work so tirelessly behind the scenes 🙌

We know Graduation isn’t going to be quite the same this year for any of us, due to the current situation, but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate in style.
Did you know you can borrow a gown so you can take those all-important celebratory photographs? Hire is normally £25, but due to the circumstances we will not be charging the standard fee. You can instead make a minimum £5 donation to QUB RAG.
RAG (Raise & Give) is the official fundraising group of Queen's University Students' Union and this year their chosen charities are Save the Children NI & Belfast Samaritans.
Plus, if you would like to treat your friends or family to a taste of Graduation, you can also arrange to pick up a hamper too.
Remember, we are still planning a graduation celebration for you on campus and we can’t wait to celebrate with you once it is possible.

Perfect portions. Hands up who has ever found themselves with far too much rice or pasta? It’s easy to do, but there are simple ways to cook the perfect amount. For example, a mug filled with dry rice will cook enough for four adults
Chill the fridge out! The average fridge temperature in UK homes is nearly 7°C, but foods will last longer if they are kept at under 5°C. Not sure how to adjust your fridge temperature? can help: https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/article/chill-fridge-out
Do you bin crusts and broccoli stems? Over two-thirds of the food we waste is perfectly edible, so using every edible bit of your food is essential. Try leaving the skin on when you make mashed potato – this will save you time as well! https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/compleating
‘Use by’ is about safety – food should not be eaten after this date (even if it looks/smells fine). ‘Best before’ is about quality – although food won’t be at top quality after this date, it will still be safe to eat for some time. https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/article/date-labels-%E2%80%93-what-do-they-mean

Wasting food feeds climate change.
If everyone in the UK stopped throwing away food for one day, it’d do the same for climate change as taking 14,000 cars off the road for a whole year!
