RoSPA
We're a charity dedicated to our vision of life, free from serious accidental injury.
RoSPA aims to improve safety in all areas of life, without putting unnecessary restrictions on people's freedom. We believe that people should be given as much information as possible about the risks they may face, to enable them to undertake activities safely - rather than simply stopping people from taking risks at all.
It only takes a few seconds for a tragedy to strike.
Blind cords can be dangerous, especially for families with young children and toddlers. We're asking organisations to help us keep little ones safe by sharing our blind cord safety advice.
We need to make sure everyone - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles - know what to look out for, to keep families safe from the danger of blind cords.
Visit our website and share our advice with your employees: https://www.rospa.com/campaigns-fundraising/current/blind-cord-safety
Being distracted by a second activity while driving, inevitably affects driving standards and safety, making the driver less observant and more likely to fail to anticipate hazards around them.
In a recent feature article, RoSPA's Dr Karen McDonnell discusses the main risks relating to driver distraction and how to tackle them: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/driven-to-distraction
Thanks to our partnership with L'Oréal, RoSPA members have access to downloadable resources covering various summer safety topics, including beach safety, barbecue safety, camping safety, and inland water safety.

From educational toys and fashion objects to craft items, model trains and electronics, high-strength magnets are commonly found in many household items.
While these small objects can be entertaining and educational, they pose a significant risk to very young children and teenagers - they can kill or lead to serious life-changing injuries if they are swallowed or inhaled
Keep your little ones safe by storing all small magnets out of their reach and educating them about the dangers. Learn more about magnet safety and how you can prevent accidents at home: https://www.rospa.com/campaigns-fundraising/current/magnet-safety

Around half the population will be taking a UK holiday or short break this summer, according to a survey by Visit Britain. The South West and North West of England, London, Scotland, Yorkshire and Wales are the most popular destinations.
Unsurprisingly, with all these extra vehicles on the road, the number of vehicle breakdowns and collisions also increases, adding to congestion and slowing the traffic flow. But as motorists, some steps can be taken to make the holiday driving experience safer and smoother for all.
In our brand new article, Becky Spencer outlines advice on safe holiday driving: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/prepare-properly-to-ensure-a-safe-holiday-drive

It’s probably the last thing you want to think about when you’re relaxing on holiday. But carbon monoxide poisoning can happen anywhere, any time.
If your holiday accommodation has any fuel-burning appliances, it should be equipped with CO alarms. But when you’re packing your sun lotion and beach towel, make space in your luggage for a CO alarm too.

According to our recent survey, 62% of parents with children under five said that they hadn’t received any guidance on installing and using blind cords safely.
We’re really concerned by this gap in people’s knowledge.
Why? Because blind cords can be dangerous, especially for families with young children and toddlers.
Visit our blind cord safety advice page for tips and advice on how to keep families safe from the danger of blind cords: https://www.rospa.com/campaigns-fundraising/current/blind-cord-safety
Occupational road safety does not start and stop on the way out of a construction site or as materials leave a depot to be delivered to homes and workplaces.
It starts as soon as each of us thinks about driving for work – every day.
In a recent article, RoSPA's Dr Karen McDonnell highlights the importance of transporting goods safely: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/safe-driver,-safe-vehicle,-safe-load

As a leading voice in health and safety for the last 100 years, we have witnessed the landscape of safety and accident prevention change - particularly in 1974.
1974, the year of the Three-Day Week, two General Elections, England and Wales failing to qualify for the World Cup (Scotland went out in the group stage), and the year arguably the most important piece of workplace safety legislation – the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act – came into force.
Last week marked the anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 gaining Royal Assent. In our brand new article, Becky Spencer evaluates its impact over the last fifty years: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/50-years-of-the-health-and-safety-at-work-act
Everyone has the right to be safe.
Whether you're renting a property that's a long-term let, or a weekend in a holiday cottage, your landlord has a legal responsibility to protect you from carbon monoxide (CO).
If you're a property owner, do you have a CO alarm in your home, and do you have your appliances regularly serviced?
We have worked with Wales and West Utilities to develop a brand-new carbon monoxide hub to help you and your loved ones get in the know about CO: https://www.rospa.com/policy/home-safety/carbon-monoxide-hub

The new Labour government was elected with a promise to review health and safety guidance and regulations with a view to modernising legislation where it does not fully reflect today’s workplace. Unions and safety campaigners will want to see this include an examination of the regulation – and enforcement – of psychosocial hazards including bullying and harassment.
In our recent feature article, Andrea Oates looks at what the law says about protecting workers from psychosocial hazards: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/bullying-and-harassment-at-work
It isn't just the gas appliances in your home that can produce carbon monoxide. Any appliance which burns coal, oil or wood can also produce CO. So, it's also important to be aware of CO if you are planning to stay in holiday accommodation, on a boat or at a campsite.
If your holiday accommodation has any fuel-burning appliances, it should be equipped with CO alarms. But when you’re packing your sun lotion and beach towel, make space in your luggage for a CO alarm too.

All safety campaigns seek to persuade people to adopt different behaviours to keep them and others from harm. Over recent years many communications practitioners have turned to psychological theories of persuasion to achieve this aim.
So, how can using psychological theories of persuasion make safety campaigns more effective?

Our Story
A registered charity established almost 100 years ago and aims to campaign for change, influence opinion, contribute to debate, educate and inform - for the good of all.
By providing information, advice, resources and training, RoSPA is actively involved in the promotion of safety and the prevention of accidents in all areas of life - at work, in the home, and on the roads, in schools, at leisure and on (or near) water.
RoSPA's mantra is 'sensible safety', advocating that activities in all walks of life should be as safe as necessary, not as safe as possible. It seeks to educate and inform, so as to enable people to make their own decisions and manage their own risks.
