Than you to all our lovely guests who joined us for a delicious night of Steak and Red wine at the fabulous in Birmingham.
Six varied reds all good pairings for red meat dishes.
Golden Reserve Malbec came out clear winner with 8 votes out of 22. Dark, brooding blackberries, plum and vanilla from 12 months barrel age. Always a winner with a steak.
Joint second place with four votes each were the ‘el Piadoso’ Gran Reserva Rioja from . A light bodied Rioja just starting to show some tertiary character and then the Hunter Valley Shiraz. A soft and approachable medium bodied expression of Australia’s signature variety. Very good value at £11 from
Loads more events coming up!
Tonight we ventured to Iberia, tasting 6 delicious wines from Spain. Fave wine albariño aged on the lees, lovely texture and complexity 🇪🇸🍷
Such a lovely group last night at our first ‘Cheese & Wine’ pairing evening of 2023!
Six different styles of wine with six different cheeses showing just how much fun you can have!
loosen Grey Slate Riesling came out on top. Mineral, apple and lemon notes and off dry. Paired really well with the stinky but mellow ‘Munster’ from Alsace. Amazing value at £10 Waitrose]] .
Second place was .bordeaux ‘Roqueblanche’ Sauvignon Blanc. Again, brilliant value. Grassy and a touch of elderflower. Great with the hard goats cheese. Waitrose]]
My personal pick was the Samos White Muscat Vin Doux from Greece. Sweet but not too heavy and lovely floral and light caramel notes. Great with and a total steal at £9 for 75cl Waitrose]]
Completing the line up was :
Brut sparkling paired with Neufchâtel cheese from Normandy. Lagrein with Gruyère and one of my ‘go to’ great value clarets Chateau Tour st Bonnet 2016. Lovely with vintage cheddar.
More great events to come in 2023.
Wine & Chocolate pairing this evening went down a storm (featuring the milky bar kid!) The top wine was Alasia Brachetto d’Acqui from , a sweet effervescent red from northern Italy and only 5.5% abv!! Perfect pairing: Malmsey Madeira & Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups 🍫🍷
Give the gift of a wine experience with one of our e-gift vouchers, emailed instantly to you or the recipient! 🎁🍾🎄

The lovely hosted our steak and red wine dinner on Saturday with some brilliant bottles from and
The Gran Reserva Rioja from Tesco and Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux from Majestic came out top and both deliver a lot of wine for their price (especially during the various promotions).
They're both brilliant examples of how a wine should develop with age and went down a treat with the steak.
Hope you're having a glass of something nice this weekend. 🍷

A fabulous French Wine Dinner at tonight.
We got right across the country with some brilliant wines and amazing food.
The Medoc from came out as the favourite but the love was spread right across the selection.
The Alsace Pinot Noir at 15% had surprising balance too!
My next tasting for
is in a couple of weeks, but my next lot of studying starts on Monday!
Have a happy weekend 🍷🍷

Thanks to all who joined our Spanish tasting last night. A lovely canter around the Iberian Peninsula and a taster of the wonderful variety of wines produced in the beautiful and fascinating country.
Spain is steeped in tradition and these long held values still seen in their winemaking today. There is also exciting change and evolution driven by the global wine market and the next generation of wine makers taking the helm at many of the long standing family wineries.
Join first place votes went to the Cubillo Crianza 2013 and the Parcelas Organic Monastrell. The Pago de Valdoneje Mencia also went down well and it was a first try of the variety for the group.
Lovely selection from .
🇪🇦
Repost Steak and red wine tonight and some cracking bottles to open.
Interesting to see the favourite wines of the night as I think people might be surprised by a couple of the bottles.
I'm hosting quite a few events here over the next few weeks for so check out the wine school website for more details.
Hope to see you soon. 🍷🍷
