The stunning gardens at the Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands in will be open to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme on Sunday 23 June.

From 11am until 4pm, volunteer gardeners will be on hand to show visitors around and answer any questions, as well as being able to talk about the work of Marie Curie in the community.

Refreshments will be available to purchase and visitors are invited to take part in fundraising games.

Entry to the gardens costs £4 per person (children free) and tickets can be purchased in advance at ➡️ findagarden.ngs.org.uk or in person on the day.

The Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands offers in-patient care, a Support and Wellbeing Hub, specialist care at home and bereavement support to adults, children and young people.

Do Connolly from Solihull who has been volunteering in the garden at the hospice in since it opened in 2013 said: “The patient rooms at the hospice are all arranged around the gardens giving easy access to both patients and their families and are such an important part of the hospice.

“Our team of 27 volunteers have been working hard throughout the year to ensure the garden is looking beautiful and full of colour and a peaceful space for our patients, families, staff, and volunteers to enjoy and spend some time with nature.

“We look forward to welcoming the local community to the hospice on 23 June to enjoy the grounds. Visitors can buy something for their own garden from the plant stall, take part in a silent auction or try their luck at the tombola. Tea and cakes will be available in the garden and in the hospice Bistro and games provided to keep the children entertained.”

Ben Thomas, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for the West Midlands said: “I hope everyone in the local community will come and support their local Hospice whilst enjoying our beautiful gardens and find out more about our vital work in the West Midlands

“Marie Curie’s longest standing charity partner, the National Garden Scheme, raises money entirely through volunteers opening their beautiful gardens to visitors in exchange for a charity donation.

“To date they have raised over £11 million for Marie Curie to help us provide care and support for people living with any illness they are likely to die from, and those close to them.”

To find out more about how you can support Marie Curie in the West Midlands please contact your local Community Fundraiser, Ben Thomas on 0121 703 3715 or [email protected]

The Hospice are hosting a wedding this Friday for one of our patients. We are in need of donations of flowers and any other decorations we can use to make the room look lovely. Just married banners/balloons would also be welcome. We'd also love to have some entertainment such as a magician. If anyone can help to make this special occasion one for our patient and her family to remember, please get in touch on here or call 0121 703 3600

Grief is one of the biggest mountains you’ll ever have to climb.

Not least, because it’s one that you absolutely won’t want to.

And people may talk of ‘getting over it’.
But the truth is,
I don’t think we ever do.

And that’s not to say that we don’t end up on the other side of the mountain. I’m not saying that we’re stuck in one place forever.

But, rather than getting over it…

Perhaps we find a cave we can walk through which brings us out on the other side. It may be dark and dim and difficult, but we make it through into the light.

Perhaps we find a path around the mountain that leads to the other side. It may take a long time and it might be unsteady and precarious, but we make it round.

Or perhaps we just slowly edge our way past. A little up, a little through, a little round. Step by step.

No, I don’t think we get over it. It is too big, too overwhelming.
Too insurmountable.

So instead we get through it.
Round it.

Or quite possibly,

we just get by.
