🌟⭐️🌟GLAZE KILN OPENING🌟⭐️🌟
*
*
It’s always really exciting when it’s time to open the glaze kiln.
It’s a fight between anticipation, excitement and patience, and to be fair, patience always seems to win.
We wait patiently until it drops under 100°C, then lift the lid to look in!
*
*
It’s constantly a relief that shelves have not collapsed, and there’s no immediate signs of any disasters, and that the cones are doing what we hoped for!

Check out our stories for picture of the haul, and a few close ups, too!

Our plan is to test every one of our glazes, over each other. In picture 2 .ceramics has used Sundragon White over Sundragon Shiny Black. They melt together beautifully, and it often looks like However, the third picture shows what happens when Sundragon Shiny Black goes OVER Sundragon White. Honestly, it’s a nightmare, the Sundragon Shiny Black spits off the pot, it doesn’t just fall off, it launches itself off the pot., it lands on adjacent pots, it travels so far! it takes kiln shelves out of commission, despite the use of shelf saving “cookies”.
I haven’t yet put this anomaly to my glaze gurus, Matt and Rose Katz, , and not sure when i will, but now we are on their subscription, it won’t be too long, and i’ll be able to tell you all why this happens!
We are, indeed, privileged!
thank you to , .a.wilson , , and The Embassy of Japan!

I am so grateful to be featured in the exhibition "Ash, Ember, Flame: a Japanese kiln in Oxford" at the Embassy of Japan. On display are ceramic pieces fired in traditional Japanese anagama kiln in October and November 2021 by , led by .a.wilson .
About 180 works are displayed and they all tell dramatic stories of flame and ash. I was excited to find an iconic work by (featured on the exhibition posters), majestic work, 's work and so many other big-name potters' creations.
It was such an emotionally moving, artistically striking exhibition and at the same time it was also very informative and educational.
Special thanks to , who is a potter and the curator of this fantastic show. I can tell you haven't slept for the last 2-3 months!! Such wonderful work!!
To visit, book your slot from the embassy website.

A few weeks ago I took a call from .a.wilson , who runs in asking if would be interested in taking part in a 55 hour firing of their kiln! My heart soared when and dropped me off on site. i’d seen pictures of these kilns in books, and was/am ridiculously excited to be here. We’ve chopped wood, shared food, stacked kindling, made wads for the pots to sit on, and under the expert guidance of .a.wilson , , and many others we’ve loaded the back of the kiln. Always mindful of the path the fire will take through the kiln and across the pots. To say we are blessed to be here is such an understatement! I’m so filled with gratitude!
