Wonderful to launch ‘My Doorstep, My Culture’ an exciting programme of creative workshops across 3 community organisations, led by local Artist ILdikó Nagy. It has culminated in a group exhibition, open until the end of March in the Gala pool, Moseley Road Baths.
Join us for a kite-making workshop led by young artist Hassan Rahmani and organised by a group of local Community Producers as part of our newest project, Cultural Resistance & Creative Protest. 🔥
Inspired by the use of kites in Afghanistan for sending messages that are otherwise forbidden or ignored by those in power, we invite you to write a message on your kite that communicates something you’d like to see changed in Balsall Heath.
We’ll then walk to a local park to fly these messages in our neighbourhood skies, sparking conversation with passers-by whilst enjoying tasty Afghan treats!

Thank you to everyone who made December Balsall Heath so special. We're taking some time off in January to rechange, back in Feb 2022!
🥳 Let’s celebrate. Let’s rest. 🥱
We are looking back over an incredible year. 2021 will always be a turning point for us as an organisation. We had some very low lows and some very high highs. Together these made up a rich experience of becoming a caring employer and activity provider.
The best of 2021:
We published our Warmth project aims & report
We updated our Mission statement, Access Guide and any policy that relates to equity and inclusion and became much more transparent organisation
We opened ourselves up to criticism and received this plenty - both good & bad
We made the most amazing connections to artists, curators, participants and staff by spreading warmth
We updated our complaints procedure and used it successfully on several occasions feeling confident in embracing conflict
We added 2 new directors to our board
We worked with some incredible artists most notably
We worked with dozens of incredible volunteers who gave their time in kind of which we are extremely grateful most notably Lesley Stewart, Amelia Rouse, Uzmah Naz, Charlie Pountney, Jaleesa Padmore (Jaleesa both as a paid intern and volunteer)
We supported new projects and ideas giving artists autonomy and proper pay: Creative Community, .art
We formalised our new rotating leadership procedure and flat working structure and hired our first Artistic Lead Aaisha Akhtar
We increased our team and saw the most amazing community work in action, supporting each other with care .akram2020 …
We are so excited for next year and the wonderful people we will work with. But for now we are winding down to rest. See you all in 2022.
🧡 Thank you for all your support! 🧡
We want everyone to feel safe and cared for during and we wanted you to know we’ll be following COVID-19 guidelines thought out the day.

Now at its umpteenth formation, The GAP will be joined by members Paul Carroll on percussion and Mike Bethel on Double Bass, led by Andy performing in his unique, eccentric lively style.
