Hello Big Tent Members

We have some exciting news! Things at Somerset Big Tent are changing...

Late last year we embarked upon discussions with our funders - the Integrated Care Board (ICB) - exploring the future shape of Somerset Big Tent (SBT), and how it can continue to support and meet the needs of young people across the county.

Since 2019 Somerset Big Tent has grown into a unique alliance of 45 VCSE member organisations, providing young people with access to a wide variety of mental health and wellbeing support; a diverse community of local, regional and national organisations working together, sharing best practice, and collectively striving to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of young people across the county. While building this alliance, we have consistently provided direct support to parents and guardians of young people experiencing wellbeing challenges, including supporting access to wider SBT member services.

As of April 2023, Somerset Big Tent will no longer be facilitated by Young Somerset. We will, however, continue to maintain the website, resources and email facility until a new host is confirmed. With the continued oversight of the ICB, SBT will be incorporated into a new system-wide digital mental health and emotional wellbeing portal in the near future. All current alliance members, including those currently being onboarded, will have the opportunity to migrate to this new portal. The portal will continue the work of SBT, while strengthening and increasing its reach and ability to support more young people and families across Somerset.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and participation in building our strong SBT alliance which has had a demonstrable impact on the wellbeing of children, young people and families – including over the lifespan of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result of your engagement, SBT is raising the profile within the system of the value and diversity of the VCSE offer for wellbeing and mental health for children and young people in Somerset.

More information about the future facilitation and home of SBT will be communicated as soon as it is available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Patrick Worthington, Children and Young People Mental Health Commissioner, [email protected]
