We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new Sussex County Assistant Secretary, Cody Maynard-Grice.

Cody started playing at Willingdon Golf Club as a junior around 10 years ago, where he later became a shop assistant and eventually worked his way to the position of Golf Operations Coordinator.

During his time at Willingdon, he covered many roles, including assisting members with golfing systems, successfully managing society/charity days and sold his fair share of mars bars too!. He comes with a huge amount of support from the club where he was clearly a very valued member of their team.

We are all confident that Cody will take on his new responsibilities with the same enthusiasm and professionalism and will bring a high level of efficiency to help grow Sussex County Golf even further.

Our Under 16’s squad played their first triangular league match yesterday at Darenth Valley GC against Kent and Surrey.

Sussex won both matches, beating Kent 6-2 and Surrey 11-5.

Overall result; Sussex 23 points, Surrey 14 & Kent 11.

We had our Sussex Boys vs Sussex Girls match today at D**e Golf Club, Brighton.
Our U14’s squad were amazing and took on the challenge.

They all played so well and were an absolute pleasure to spend time with. Some fabulous golf was played. The Sussex County Ladies Golf Association Juniors won 3 1/2 - 2 1/2 but the boys put up a great fight. Thank you to all players for being so kind, positive and supportive to each other and to the girls. We are very proud of them all. Congratulations to the Girls squad.

The Wellesley Scratch Knockout first round matches were played on Saturday and round two matches now preparing for battle. These take place on Saturday 18th May.

Andy Beer Trophy 2024

Thank you to everyone who came along yesterday to the Andy Beer Junior Team Trophy at Copthorne Golf Club

Congratulations to the team from Cottesmore Hotel Golf and Country Club for winning and qualifying to respresent Sussex in the National final at Woodhall Spa!

Special mention to the team from Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club who missed out by 1 point. All three of their players played in their first county event and showed amazing spirit.

It was a pleasure to spend time with all of yesterdays young golfers, they’re a credit to your golf clubs.

Vans Agnew Trophy 2024

Saturday 6th April saw the Sussex County 1st team arrive at the home of the Wellesley Investment Management Ltd Trophy winners, Pyecombe Golf Club, to compete for the Vans Agnew Trophy.

The wind was up and with very little run on the course due to the relentless rain we’ve been having, it was going to be a really difficult day.

Pyecombe put out a very strong team, but the 1st teams chipping and putting emphasis coupled with our warm weather training showed that we were a little sharper.

The morning foursomes resulted in a 4-0 lead to the county.

Pyecombe came out fighting after lunch and made a fast start. The wind seemed to get stronger!

Ultimately though the score ended at 8-4 to the County 1st team.

A couple of highlights for me was the decision making of players at the right time and showing patience in really difficult weather conditions. These are areas we’ve identified as requiring improvement and we’ve worked hard on this.

Matt Vearncombe chipping in at the side of 10 from what seemed an almost impossible position! 👏👏

Drew Bailey (Pyecombe but part of the county squad) beating Steve Mitchell in what can only be described as a ding d**g battle. Drew birdied 18 to win!👏👏

Thank you to the Pyecombe members and staff for making us feel very welcome, although I personally felt an icy chill in the clubhouse from the Pyecombe team, at the close of play 😂🤦‍♂️…can’t think why?

We are very proud of Sophie, Patrick, Ryan and Toby for winning Sussex County Golf’s Jack Langmead Plate on Saturday at Hill Barn Golf Club. With three out of the five best scores on the day, there was no stopping them! Huge congratulations to the dream team 💙💛💚
