Our Healthlink service is getting busier than ever and we're looking for volunteers who can help older people get to health and social care appointments in the city.
This is a rewarding, flexible role suitable for someone who cannot make a regular weekly commitment. We provide training and cover expenses.
Can you help?

In my Change Makers Interview Series I ask each person to share a fundraising cause, community project, or advocacy campaign they support.
In my first interview with Emma Thomas Hancock - Who volunteering has helped me become, Emma shared one cause close to her heart, is helping older people overcome isolation and loneliness.
She is a volunteer bingo caller at two supported housing associations for LifeLines, an older volunteer led project in Brighton supporting older people.
LifeLines volunteers host activities for older people in community venues across the city with a focus on social connections, health and wellbeing and having fun.
Along with traditional groups like coffee mornings, arts and crafts, reminiscence and gentle exercise, they also try out new and different experiences. The funkier the better!
Like Dungeons & Dragons, Silver Gaming, Snacking on Shakespeare, Creative Expressions.
To find out more about how an older person can join Lifelines wellbeing activities or be accompanied to health appointments visit their website https://lifelinesbrightonhove.org.uk or call 01273 688 117.
Over 50 years old? Why not contact LifeLines to share your skills and volunteer?

A big thank you to Japanese exchange students Hirona, Mai and Haruka for the World Culture: Japan sessions that we delivered to senior housing venues in Brighton.
The residents and locals really loved the chance to explore their culture, learn about the importance of the seasons, try some Sushi and Origami, as chat and ask questions with the students.
A video from Hirona thanking the residents for the gifts they gave them.

Response to outbreak of COVID-19
As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak LifeLines has suspended all face to face services. We recognise that this may well have a negative impact on the mental health and wellbeing on people, particular older people, who have been recommended to self-isolate.
In response to this we have changed what our service offers. We now offer:
The Phone Tree
LifeLines has set up a telephone befriending service for any older person who might need it. We can arrange for someone to give you regular phone calls on your mobile or landline. Our friendly volunteers can call in regularly to check how you are doing or perhaps you just fancy a chat. A great way to feel connected in this difficult time of recommended self-isolation and social distancing.
