🌟 Have you visited our current exhibition yet?

Experience the work of Birmingham artist and activist Foka Wolf who challenges the invisibility of autistic people and those with learning disabilities in long-stay hospitals. Titled Why Are We Stuck in Hospital?, this artwork, produced by Ikon in 2023, is now on display at Fabrica and on Brighton billboards.

Through striking graphic design and bold captions, the artwork amplifies the voices of the 2,000 individuals living in hospital settings for years, often with no end in sight. This exhibition is part of a research-based project by the University of Birmingham's School of Social Policy, in collaboration with Changing Our Lives, aiming to drive real change.

Recent independent research found that some of the key barriers people face when seeking help with their mental health include unclear and confusing online information and uncertainty about what support they may need. Therefore, a list of services can be unhelpful.

To address this, UOK’s lead provider Southdown has been involved in an important piece of collaborative work to improve mental health signposting information for adults in Sussex. Working with peers in the NHS, our Local Authorities and the VCSE sector, along with people with lived experience, consistent mental health signposting information has been designed to make it easy to find and access the help they need.

If you or someone you know are looking for mental health and wellbeing support and are not sure what is the best route of support for your condition, please take a look at the options listed in the image or check the 'Get Support' page on our website: https://ow.ly/sblZ50SPbVj

"My name’s Luke and I’m the Team Manager for Staying Well Brighton & Hove at the Wellbeing Hub at Preston Park.

I’ve been in the post for about nine months now. I wanted to go into management for more responsibility and challenges so I could progress within the mental health sector.

This experience is helping me learn and develop, giving me opportunities for new experiences. In time the challenges won’t be challenges, they’ll become new skills.”

Staying Well Brighton & Hove is UOK’s out-of-hours crisis prevention support service for adults that is delivered by Southdown with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT). Open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, Staying Well provides psychosocial support within a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment.

In East Sussex, this is the first out-of-hours walk-in crisis prevention mental health service that doesn’t require someone to attend A&E first.

OUTFIT LONDON ROAD

We are soooo super excited to be sharing with you, our first printing pop-up with Elliot from The Wiggle Project!?
On Saturday 15th June from 11am – 4pm, stroll around Outfit London Road and buy an item of clothing to be printed by Elliot! Pick one of their designs and you can get it printed right here on the day! You’ll also have a chance to talk about The Wiggle Collective and get to know more about all the work they do.

The Wiggle Collective is a group of artists, scientists and activists working to create, strengthen communities and save the environment. They use the money donated for their creations to fund research, studies, and community projects/events.

The Wiggle Project current focus: They have developed sensor boxes and code framework to monitor pollution in rivers across the UK. Currently they are looking for funding to achieve their goal of reducing pollution through our sensor boxes.

Each box costs £60 and is quite easily made, they are then added to the network to create a complete map of pollution. What they want to achieve is global access to pollution levels in our rivers - so people everywhere can swim and enjoy clean waters and safe habitats.

Currently the collective is rapidly growing, new creatives, writers and scientists joining them all the time! Soon, they will be sharing articles and scripts about the link between loneliness and the importance of community… they also have a website coming soon!
