Creeping towards £3000!

Unfortunately, we had 2 forced market cancellations this month, so our total isn't quite what we were hoping for, but still really happy to be sending another £100 to the charities we support via : , , , , and 🌿💚🌳

From June onwards we are going to slightly (but not completely) scale back our social media presence. We're gonna focus our resources on getting things going in Bristol, then, as we get a bit more volunteer support, we can start to focus on growing online again.

If you want to join in and help the project grow, please get in touch and we can discuss what could work 😁

Palace At Sunset 2 -

Great to have this beautiful print back on the site.

Since graduating from her Masters in Architecture, Sophia has focused on developing artwork which depicts aspects of her Indian upbringing, using oil pastels to produce vivid, colourful, architectural landscapes fuelled by memories.

It has been so cool to see the huge progress Sophia has made in the last year. Her work has featured in several publications and group exhibitions internationally, topped off last year with a feature of her 'Eid Picnic' piece in the Royal Academy of Art.

Though indigenous people make up less than 5% of our global population, they protect roughly 80% of our planet's biodiversity 🌎

They achieve this through various techniques, each of which is underpinned by the principle of reciprocity. This idea involves a holistic understanding of the relationship between humans and nature, based on the social, ecological, and spiritual interconnectedness that supports the vitality of our planet.

The strategies and techniques adopted by indigenous communities help to maintain a secure balance between the natural world and its inhabitants, playing a crucial role in the preservation of biodiversity.

Maintenance of this biodiversity will be crucial in our attempts to combat the climate crisis, so it is vital that we continue to stand up for and support indigenous communities as they champion this mission (especially as they fend off threats from illegal loggers, land grabbers, miners, and more).

Head over to .studio, or visit chooseearth.co to find out how you can help 💚🌿🌎🙏

Today is World Endangered Species Day!

🎨 -

It's a day to learn about the beauty and importance of the huge variety of species around the world, and to take action to support and protect those that are threatened by human caused extinction.

Take tigers. Due to poaching, the illegal wildlife trade, loss of habitat, and reduction of prey, there are under 4000 of these beautiful big cats left in the wild. That's fewer than the amount living in captivity in the US. Between 2000 and 2015, the parts of over 1500 tigers were seized from the illegal wildlife trade, and in just over a century, populations have shrunk by around 95%.

Or African elephants, around 47 of which are killed EACH DAY for their tusks, which has caused a 90% population decline over the last century. It's horrible to think about the justifications we give for sacrificing such magnificent wonders of our world.

You can help us support and restore populations of tigers, elephants, and more, through our Adopt for Prints plan. This subscription package lets you adopt an animal from through us, and receive monthly prints of your choice in return, as well as updates and goodies from your adoption.

The plan is available at various price points: the more it costs, the bigger the prints and the bigger the donation. Your subscription will help support WWF's work to protect endangered species and the habitats in which they reside. Check out our options here: https://www.twobirdsart.net/subscriptions

🌿 Welcome to Argenta 🌿

One of our favourite parts of our recent Art And The Planet exhibition had to be the section displaying line and pixel artist 's wonderful world of Argenta. We're so happy to say that all of his prints that were exhibited are now available to buy from our website 🥳

We have released each of the prints under a collection named after Argenta, giving you the opportunity to get big discounts when you buy multiple designs from Simon's world. Each available print gives an insight into a beautiful world, where the relationship between the land and its inhabitants is based on reciprocity, rather than degeneration.

To find out more about Simon's work and world, head over to next week, where we will dig a bit deeper into why Argenta serves as a beautiful model of how art can be used to help restore our relationship with the Earth 🌎

🎨 ART IS FOR EVERYONE 🌎

Since TwoBirds launched, we have tried to make our artwork as accessible and affordable as possible, because we believe art really is everybody's to share.

We've had certain obstacles, because all of our products and packaging are sooooper responsibly sourced, and 50% of every sale gets donated to our charities - it's annoyingly expensive trying to do things the right way.

So, it's sometimes a challenge trying to balance our ethos, payments to our artists, and our fundraising aims, with our attempts to make all of our designs accessible to anybody 🌿🎨

To try and help you out if there's something on our site you like but can't get at the moment, we have created a collection of nearly 100 prints that can be bought for 25% off. All you have to do is:

(1) Visit our website and sign up to our mailing list
(2) Receive our discount code immediately in an email
(3) Browse our 'Available For Discount' gallery and choose your designs
(4) Use the code at check out!

If this doesn't quite do it for you and you find yourself still somewhat struggling to buy yourself the art you love, then PLEASE don't hesitate to get in touch. We're determined that everybody can access the art they want, regardless of their situation, so we will find a solution that works for you 🌿🌎

As a bonus for anybody who read this far, the discount code is 'peanutbutter', so you don't even have to worry about joining the mailing list 🤪

Walking In Moonlight - Elin Manon] 🌕

New guest artwork! Another print we have been lucky enough to keep from our recent Art And The Planet exhibition 💚

This piece was created by the incredibly talented Elin Manon], whose work we just looove to shout about, not only because it's amazing, but also because of her commitment to the planet.

It's so clear that Elin's art is inspired not just by an appreciation of nature, but an immersion in it. If we want to truly restore and correct our relationship with the Earth, then we can't always do so from a distance (Yuriko Saito has some interesting things to say about this, check her out!!). Derive a love for nature from within nature, and use this love to protect nature 🌿🌎💚

We'll be digging a bit deeper into Elin's work, process, and inspiration next week as part of our takeover of . Go check it out if you haven't already. For now though, let's just appreciate the silvery goodness of this stunning print 🎨

🎨 Artist feature - Sofia A Melancia 🌈

We're so lucky to have so many awesome artists giving so much to our organisation, and is one of the ones who has supported us incredibly since the start of our project last year 🎨💚

A quick scroll down Sofia's profile reveals an incredible range of creativity, but it is a range marked by a beautiful style that is uniquely her own. Her work draws inspiration from the art nouveau movement, and uses the human figure in a variety of contexts to explore the mystical aspects of life and human experience. Sofia's creative talent is not bound by a particular colour palette or perspective, and each of her designs presents us with a little more of what she has to offer.

Go check out her work, follow her page, and support her either by buying one of the designs of hers we have on our site, or one of the many more she has available herself 💚🌈🎨🖌️

After a mad month of Earth Day and exhibitions, we're finally back to sharing some new artwork with you all, and this one's amazing!! If you've popped over to our Art And The Planet exhibition, you'll have seen this print, Imaginar, already.

The piece was created by Barcelona-based, Chilean artist .catrala, whose recent work in black and white has been reallly awesome. Imaginar contains a beautiful quote ("imagining is a radical act") that captures our values at TwoBirds. The spirit of creativity is wonderful on its own, but it also has infinitely radical capacities: to drive change, to resist injustice, and to allow us to freely express our views about the world 🌎💚

Thanks so much Amandina for sharing more of your wonderful talent with us (E)

As always, 50% of this purchase is donated to the charities we support through : , , , , and 🌿

💚🌏 HAPPY EARTH DAY PEOPLE 🌎💚

With all the problems facing the natural world, happy feels like the wrong word to mark today with. BUT, a happy earth (that looks something like the incredible illustration has done for us) is the future we want to strive towards, so we just gonna manifest it now 💅

PLEASE, use today to get yourselves involved in the effort to safeguard our futures; we need as many people involved as possible, and right now, though many people recognise the severity of climate change, still so few people are engaged in solutions. Discover your love for our beautiful world and use this love as fuel to protect it 💚🌎🌿

Thanks so much to the wonderful illustrators (, , and ) for drawing our way through Earth Week, and for using your creativity to defend our futures. You're all amazing!!

🏞️🌅 Our Relationship With Nature 🌇🚜

The natural world is a delicate balance of intricate and complex phenomena that have evolved over millions of years to become harmonious and thrive. It's a beautiful web of interrelated components, and WE are part of it 🌏🙏

Unfortunately, in just a fraction of the time it has taken to develop, our relationship with the nature has unravelled. The rise of technology, urbanisation, and industrial agriculture have all served to distance us from our natural environment, positioning us as rulers of it, rather than contributors to it. As we become so distanced, we normalise the degradation, destruction, and disregard for our natural world that will ultimately be our downfall.

However, we still have time to invest in this relationship, to change the way we think and act, and to align our future with the future of the natural world. When we correct these basics, it has transformative effects not only for the planet at large, but also for the flourishing of our local communities and our own mental health.

Now is the time to make nature part of your life again, to remind yourself that you are the earth, and to strive for a future in which you are safe because the earth is healthy 🌏💚

***

As an important side, we know it's not us as individuals who are to blame for the climate crisis, but when we collectively start to prioritise the natural world and demand its protection, it will give governments and big corporations reason to do the same.

There are also lots of thing that make can make it difficult to get started, so feel free to get in touch if you need some help 💚🧡💛

🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏼👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽 Community 👬🏾👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏻

Next topic up on our build up to Earth Day is: community (again aided with a beautiful illustration by , thank you!!)

Community holds a place close to our hearts at TwoBirds: our goal from the start has been to create a strong, diverse, global community of artists, who share in our goal of fighting for a fair future on a healthy planet 🌏

Sadly, though we are more able than ever before to connect with people all over the world, it's easy to feel disconnected from each other. Divisive and polarised media norms drive us into conflicting corners, BUT, when we actually communicate and collaborate with other people, we are brought together by the beautiful things we share 🫂

Our journey towards the fairer future we all want won’t be made by individuals, but by communities of humans who recognise that only together can we succeed and flourish. This is because communities, both local and global, have truly transformative powers; the sooner we can harness this power, the sooner we can deal with our differences and achieve our goals.

Take the beautiful words of the late Jo Cox with you on your search for community: “We have more in common than that which divides us”.

Find your community 🔍 Play your part 🙋 Flourish together 🌼

For our local Bristolians, The Bristol Climate hub is a great way to find out more about the importance of community, and how to get involved with community based environmental projects.

Please comment below any other ideas you have for how people can get involved with different community projects, any info about cool community projects you have been involved with, or any questions you might have about where to start 🥳

🪧💪 Activism 💥📣

(🎨 - )

Though our impact on the natural world as individuals is relatively small, the inaction of those who are responsible means that the burden falls on us to ensure change will occur. And now is the time to step up 🪜

Activism can take many forms, and it's what we rely on to get ourselves heard. Our responsibility now as individuals who want to fight for a brighter future, is to discover how we can flourish and make a difference to the climate movement (and the web of interrelated social issues).

Create, share, teach, protest, inspire, innovate... Whatever you can offer will be hugely important to the collective momentum we need to turn things around 💪📣💥💚🌏🌊🖌️🎨🪧

(If you're struggling for a place to start, try getting in touch with us. We accept help with open arms!!)

Also, as an important side note: peaceful and disruptive protests WORK. In a recent interview on Good Morning Britain, activist Miranda Whelehan was heavily criticised for the nature of her protesting with the .oil campaign. Her tactics were criticised for being ineffective and misdirected, when in actuality they landed her with an interview on national TV that brought the debate into the public sphere.

Protests shine a light on issues that are intentionally ignored by politicians and the media. Don't be fooled into thinking the people fighting for a fairer future for all of us are the enemy: they aren't. We need to stop this vilification of activists and protesters, and normalise the process of standing up for our futures by getting involved ourselves 💪📣🪧

16/04/2022

☀️💨 Renewables 🌊🍃

Solar. Wind. Water. Geothermal. Biomass. Geothermal. Our world is made up of energy, and it’s everywhere. It’s time to start harnessing it from sustainable and renewable sources.

The way we currently use fossil fuels endangers us and all forms of nature, and the current energy crisis (which sees over 6.5 million UK households living in fuel poverty) tells us that NOW is the time for change.

Everybody has a part to play, but ultimately we are being completely failed by our governments and the destructive industries that they prop up for financial gain. Recklessly producing and burning fossil fuels, while prioritising profit over people and planet, is not a sustainable course of action.

Though the detriment we cause as individuals is minimal, our collective power as communities is infinite 💪 Protest, sign petitions, contact your local MPs, boycott, and normalise standing up for our planet and our future. We at TwoBirds have endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and you all can too (we'll share the link to our story soon)

6 days until Earth Day people... Get involved, or get in touch if you need help working out how to 🌏💚
