Bird of the Week

This week we've picked a bird that matches the colour scheme we implemented for 42BR. We combined smart, inky blues with warm caramels and greys to create a professional but inviting space. We think this beautiful Kingfisher compliments it perfectly with it's gorgeous azure blue feathers combined with the fiery breast!

Our ‘Wylde Bird Series’ represents the team’s collective personality. The bird in our brand and the birds we feature and share are symbolic of beauty, innovation, nature, and freedom – all qualities we apply to our work and lives. We love sharing ideas and allow clients to access the breadth of talent across our team.

Have a wonderful weekend.

The relationships we cultivate with clients are just as meaningful as the projects we deliver. We love to hear from our clients on what made working with us memorable, details of the journey, and notably the results we achieved for them.

We completed several refurbishment projects for Bristol Grammar School which included redeveloping, space strategy and full specifications across different areas of the school, from a greeting area, refurb of the sixth form block and a two stage set up of a new infant’s school. Each project built upon the overall brand we established to achieve a cohesive set of spaces for almost every area of the school. Heres what client Jeff Berry, BGS had to say;

“Wylde became engaged in a rewarding, collaborative relationship which reflected a high level of commitment to understand educational buildings and yet provide the kind of quality found in commercial interiors. We produced a wide variety of new interiors and worked up plans for a number of new development initiatives including a performing arts centre, an enlarged library, and developments to the school sports centre. All delivered in a cost effective and client focussed manner. I would highly recommend them.”

We're happy with that! Check out our testimonials page here and read what our other happy clients have to say about working with us!

Today we're spotlighting our wonderful Director - Tracey Wylde!

Tracey founded Wylde in 1996, driven by a need to work flexibly around her growing family. But soon the growth in work and recommendations by clients meant that bringing on-board like-minded designers was essential.

She's an extremely experienced Director with a demonstrated history of working in the design industry. Strong professional skilled in Design Management, Finish, Sketching, Workplace Design, and Interior Architecture - qualifying as an interior designer back in the 80s..

"We now call it interior architecture because it’s not about curtains and cushions (albeit sometimes it is). My passion for my specialism has never diminished, I still enjoy the personal contact of working with my clients and creating new environments for each and every project."

We love you Tra!

In the Wylde blog this week - we're exploring Peach Palettes: The Perfect Summer-Autumn Transition!

We're planning ahead. When the seasons shift from summer through to autumn, you want your home’s interior design to reflect this natural transition with the perfect colour palette. Enter the peach palettes—a versatile, warm, and inviting range of shades that effortlessly bridges the gap between summer's vibrancy and autumn's earthy tones.

Peach is a colour that embodies warmth, comfort, and subtle sophistication. It ranges from soft, pastel hues reminiscent of summer sunsets to deeper, richer tones that echo the golden leaves of fall. This flexibility makes peach an ideal choice for those looking to create a seamless flow between the seasons.

Visiting furniture showrooms with our interior design hats on - is super inspiring and helps us get ideas flowing for our workplace designs, infusing them with innovative designs and fresh perspectives.

In the Wylde blog this week we're discussing the four-day working week! We've been championing the hybrid work model for a very long time and believe in creating spaces that facilitate flexible working. Its no surprise we're particularly happy that the four day work week has gained significant traction across Europe, signalling a shift in traditional work paradigms (Finally!).

The idea is simple yet profound: reducing the standard workweek from five to four days, without a reduction in pay. This shift is not just about cutting hours; it's about fostering a more flexible and sustainable work environment.

Coffee Morning anyone?

The Wylde girls are up and at it, and one of our favourite Monday rituals is to get our heads together over a hot drink!

Having a coffee with your team-mates on a Monday morning in the workplace is important for several reasons. It serves as a valuable team-building opportunity, fostering camaraderie and strengthening interpersonal relationships, which can enhance overall workplace morale. An informal coffee-date allows team members to catch up on personal and professional updates, easing the transition from the weekend to the workweek. It can also be a time for informal brainstorming and sharing of ideas, which can spark creativity and collaboration. Additionally, starting the week with a relaxed, social activity can help reduce stress and create a positive atmosphere, setting a productive and motivated tone for the days ahead.

Have a great start to the week!

Bird of the Week

It's the first Friday in August and for this week's bird we've picked one of the UK's more common visitors for this month! You can catch the Common Swift darting across the British skies and practicing aerial acrobatics! By early August, swifts are beginning their migration back to sub-Saharan Africa, where they spend the winter. As these feathered friends embark on their long journey south, we hope you've set off into your weekend.

Whatever you're up to, have a wonderful one!

01/08/2024

Already done with the week? Nina certainly is!

Luckily, Thursdays have become the new Friday in the workplace due to evolving work cultures that prioritise flexibility and work-life balance. Many companies now offer remote work options on Fridays, transforming Thursdays into the end of the traditional in-office workweek. This shift enhances employee morale by providing a more relaxed and flexible end to the week.

Working from home on Fridays fosters a beneficial work ethic by allowing employees to manage their time efficiently, minimise commuting stress, and create a productive home office environment. This flexibility can lead to increased job satisfaction, higher productivity, and better mental health, as employees feel more in control of their schedules and work-life integration!

Cheer up Ni-naw!

In the evolving landscape of workplace design, the quest for the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics has led to remarkable innovations. One such innovation is the integration of aesthetically pleasing acoustic treatments. No longer confined to industrial settings or disguised behind plain panels, acoustic treatments have emerged as a key element in creating productive, enjoyable, and visually captivating work environments. Here’s why aesthetically pleasing acoustic treatments are essential in contemporary workplace interior design and architecture.

In any bustling workplace, managing noise is a significant challenge. Open-plan offices, collaborative spaces, and the constant hum of technology contribute to a soundscape that can quickly become overwhelming. Excessive noise leads to distractions, stress, and decreased productivity. This is where acoustic treatments step in, but their importance extends beyond mere functionality.

What Motivates You?

As we start a new week, the Wylde early birds are taking a moment to reflect on what truly motivates us at work. Understanding our motivations can greatly enhance our productivity, creativity and job satisfaction. Here are some Monday motivators for you to have a think about before you head into the office.

Personal Growth: Are you driven by the desire to learn and develop new skills? Setting personal goals can provide a really strong sense of achievement.

Making a Difference: The ability to positively impact your team, clients or further beyond can be incredibly fulfilling. Recognise the value of your contributions.

Recognition: Acknowledgment for your hard work boosts morale and motivates continued excellence.

Work-Life Balance: Knowing your efforts allow you to enjoy personal time can keep you focused and energised. After all, this is everything right?

Passion: Loving what you do is the best motivator. When you're passionate about your work, it feels fulfilling rather than a chore.

Reflect on what motivates you and align your tasks with these drivers. We can all use this understanding to fuel a productive and satisfying week. Here’s to a motivated and successful week ahead!

Bird of the Week

Why flying off into the weekend matters! Reasons not to check your emails this weekend: the end of the week plays a crucial role in maintaining a successful career by providing essential rest and recuperation. The physical and mental break that the weekend offers helps reduce stress and prevent burnout, which is vital for long-term productivity and health. By stepping away from work, you allow your mind and body to recover, leading to improved concentration and efficiency when you return. This regular downtime is essential for maintaining a sustainable work pace and ensuring that you remain motivated and effective in your professional tasks.

Need more reasons? Additionally, weekends support a healthy work-life balance, which is fundamental for overall well-being. They provide an opportunity to engage in personal activities, spend time with family and friends, and pursue hobbies, all of which contribute to a more fulfilling life. This balance not only enhances personal satisfaction but also fosters creativity and innovation by giving you the space to gain new perspectives and ideas. Basically, utilising weekends effectively can lead to better job performance, higher job satisfaction, and a more balanced and enjoyable life.

Now go and enjoy yours!

Designing reception areas that are practical, beautiful, and infused with brand identity is essential for creating a positive and lasting impression on visitors. A well-designed reception area serves as the first point of contact between a company and its clients, partners, or guests, making it crucial for this space to be both functional and inviting. Practicality ensures that the area can accommodate the flow of traffic, provide comfortable seating, and facilitate efficient operations, such as check-ins and information dissemination. When a reception area is thoughtfully planned, it minimises congestion and confusion, contributing to a smoother visitor experience.

Incorporating beauty into the reception area design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also creates an environment that reflects the company’s values and culture. A visually appealing space can evoke feelings of welcome, professionalism, and trustworthiness, which are vital for establishing a positive rapport from the outset. More importantly, integrating brand identity into the design—through the use of company colours, logos, and thematic elements—reinforces brand recognition and communicates a cohesive message about the company’s image and mission. This blend of functionality, aesthetics, and brand representation in reception areas plays a pivotal role in shaping visitors' perceptions, making them feel valued and connected to the brand from the moment they step inside!

It's funny looking back on the very first stages of a project when we've now successfully completed two completed projects!

Our first project for The National Trust was at their headquarters Heelis in Swindon. The project involved upgrading outdated infrastructure, facilities and working spaces, to meet the needs of the Trust’s operations and workforce.

The project's focus consisted of a focus on fine-tuning the existing interior and implementing meaningful changes to the working environment, whilst remaining budget and environmentally conscious. All the finishes, fittings and furniture were carefully curated, guided by National Trust’s sustainability policy and a need to be environmentally accountable, whilst being budget conscious. For example, fabrics made from recycled content were used on new furniture, existing furniture was reused and reupholstered wherever possible. Sustainability is at the core of every design decision in this project, with natural or environmentally friendly materials and products specified for all elements, including textiles made from sea plastics!

Following the success of our project at the National Trust HQ we were a natural choice for their new London offices. We were looking at how to create flexible working and meeting spaces which would give staff a choice of where to work, from quiet areas where they can control lighting levels, to busy collaboration spaces where teams can sit, work and meet together. Overlaying the branding developed in Heelis ensures an identifiable, cohesive themed interior that provides familiarity across the two sites!

We'll give ourselves a big pat on the back for these two! Head to the Wylde website to see the full case studies and final photos.

As the summer holidays begin, the allure of (possible) sunny days, family holidays, and outdoor adventures becomes irresistible. However, for hybrid workers, who balance the flexibility of remote work with in-office responsibilities, truly disconnecting can be a challenge. With work always within arm's reach, setting boundaries is crucial to enjoy a well-deserved break. Here’s a guide to help you draw clear lines between time off and remote work, ensuring you can relax and recharge this summer.

Before taking time off, inform your team well in advance. Clear communication about your availability or lack thereof helps manage expectations and ensures a smoother transition during your absence. Identify tasks that need attention while you're away and delegate them to trusted colleagues. Providing detailed instructions and necessary access to resources will help them manage your duties effectively. Remember, there's absolutely no need to feel guilty about being unavailable and you also do not need to make yourself available during your holiday time.

For hybrid workers, the lines between work and personal life can often blur, making it challenging to disconnect fully. However, by planning ahead, setting clear boundaries, leveraging technology, prioritising self-care, practicing mindfulness, and planning a gradual return, you can enjoy a rejuvenating summer break. Read our tips here;

Trust the process!

Our Wyldeology is a process of understanding which flexes to our clients’ needs and requirements. No two projects are the same, and that’s what we love. Finding the unique, innovative and practical solutions to design beautiful spaces that support your people / our clients to work, learn and live better.

Our careful consideration of layout and attention to detail: colour, branding, acoustic fittings and furniture, are just some of the ways we achieve results. Sometimes the solution is a complete refit of a space, other times it’s rearranging existing elements more harmoniously. We’re always looking for opportunities to make what clients already have, work better.

Say Cheese!

We visited our most recent project for Wyke Farms at Bruton in Somerset last week.
The Cheese Grading Room and WCs have been completed and are looking fab! The brief for this transformation was a roll-out of branding development, bringing a fresh and on-brand aesthetic combined with functionality and practicality - which becomes easier each time we design a new space for the wonderful Wyke team!

We're thrilled with how the spaces are looking - with a real consistency between our Wincanton projects and the Bruton site. Check out the Wyke Farms Wincanton case study here and watch this space for the new full project coming soon!

Hybrid working arrangements where employees spend three days in the office and two at home are just as productive as full-time office attendance, a study has found. Are you surprised? We know we're not - we've been championing flexible and hybrid working models long before the pandemic. Clock watching has never been the way to get the most out of your employees, but understanding and flexing to individual needs has always increased retention, productivity and business success.

Hybrid working has an endless list of positives - Hybrid workers more productive and less stressed. The rates of sickness absence decreased significantly with hybrid workers taking less time off. Hybrid workers were also much less likely to quit their jobs, especially women, non-managers and people with long commutes. Resignations fell by 33% among the hybrid working cohort.

Our often cloudy skies can serve as a surprising source of inspiration for creating a stylish and serene interior design. Whilst we endure one of the coolest summers of the past twenty years, we thought we may as well embrace the positives! By blending cloud-themed elements with a sophisticated grey palette, you can transform your home into a chic and cosy haven that reflects the beauty of overcast days.

A cloud-themed interior begins with a soft, airy colour palette. Shades of grey, from light silver to deep charcoal, mimic the varying tones of the sky. These colours create a calming base that sets the stage for a serene atmosphere. Use light grey on walls to evoke a sense of spaciousness and brightness, while darker shades can add depth and a touch of drama. Incorporate soft blues and whites to enhance the cloud-like effect, creating a cohesive and tranquil environment.

Designing interior spaces is a journey of creativity and imagination!

The process begins with a blank canvas, where the designer's vision starts to take shape through pens and paper, then digital tools and software. Each step is an exploration of possibilities, a dance between form and function. This creative endeavour allows designers to express their artistic flair while solving spatial problems, combining aesthetics with practicality. The joy lies in seeing a concept come to life, transforming abstract ideas into tangible, beautiful spaces that enhance the lives of those who inhabit them.

The beauty of designing interior spaces is found in the harmony of elements and the creation of atmospheres that evoke emotions. It involves a real understanding of how light, texture, and colour interact to create moods and enhance the overall experience of a room. The satisfaction of selecting the "right" fabric, the "best" shade of paint, or the most suitable piece of furniture, and then seeing these elements come together seamlessly, is immensely fulfilling. Designing interior spaces not only brings us personal joy but also the pleasure of knowing that our work will bring comfort, inspiration, and happiness to others!
