Stowe Sub Aqua Club
We’re a family friendly BSAC club in the Buckingham area. For 40+ years we’ve been teaching divers 🐙 We also arrange international dive trips.
We are a small, family friendly scuba diving club with access to the best swimming pool in the area. We teach all levels of diving and anyone is welcome to join our club. We arrange club diving trips to sites all around the UK, both inland and ocean. Any questions just drop us a message!
We still have spaces to fill on the boat for Saturday on the Dorset trip. Open to qualified ocean divers and other clubs are welcome to join us just drop us a message or spaces can be booked https://bookings.kyarra.com/default_shedule.asp (22nd Old Harry at 12:45 and Fleur at 14:45)
Throwing it back to the amazing trip to Chuuk Lagoon (Truk) with some of the best wreck diving and beautiful marine life
We are so proud of all of your trainees who did their first open water dives tonight in Calvert. Seven trainees ventured into Calvert for the first time, and they all did a fab job! 🥳 Thank you also to our team of instructors providing excellent guidance 🤩
Yesterday a number of the club went to Midlands Diving Chamber for a 40m dry dive in the hyperbaric chamber. A great time was had by all!
Some of our experienced divers enjoyed the weekend at Dorothea Quarry at depths down to 50m. The visibility got better the deeper you went.
It's certainly going to be on our annual trip list going forward.
A sign of a successful day of diving
We’re looking forward to our club trip up to Dorothea (not pictured) for our senior divers. 9 members of Stowe Sub Aqua Club will be travelling up for a weekend of technical diving
Red Sea ❤️🌊🫧
Today we added a new attraction to our home at Calvert. We’ll introduce you soon!
We do enjoy just casually diving through aeroplanes. Don’t worry this one was sunk specifically for divers! There are a number of inland dive sites with sights to see for us scuba divers, you’d be surprised what there is hidden underwater
British Kelp 🪼🦭🪸🌿 Kelp is an amazing habitat which we need to be protecting and restoring. It is home to so much life and is a huge carbon capture and store. You never know what wonderful critters and fauna you might find hiding amongst the Kelp.
Congratulations to Rudi B this morning for completing his Sports Diver qualification!
Did you know that we get Blue Sharks in British waters? We encountered this guy while on a trip to Plymouth. We get multiple species of sharks in the UK including Basking Sharks!
“This is what I joined the club for. 😁😁 To have some extra great experiences while on holiday. Thanks for all the training that kept me safe and gave me confidence.”
A testimonial from current club member Mark who has been having a great time on holiday! We love to hear how our club members have gotten the most out of their holiday diving thanks to our training.
How we feel about another day trip up to on Friday for a fun filled Friday in the water.
Dorothea and North Wales
We’re taking a trip up to North Wales to dive Dorothea, with the possibility of some shore dives being added to the mix.
If interested contact Tony R, to dive Dorothea you need a technical dive qualification (at least sports diver with twinset and ADP or dive leader with depth progressions) but for others in the club we can look at add coastal shore dives into the mix as well.
We’re back at Stoney Cove on Friday 22nd March for a days diving and visiting Nessie. Stoney is a great inland dive lake in a former quarry which is full of things to go and see.
Why Cat thinks more women should take up scuba diving:
We are all divers in the water, equals, loving and caring for our aquatic environments.
I first joined Stowe Sub Aqua Club in 2010 at 16, Stowe was where I learnt to dive and from the start I was supported and encouraged. In the many years since the club has empowered me to take the ownership of my scuba diving journey. I currently sit on the committee running the social media and marketing, I organise dive trips and in doing so I’ve learnt plenty of new skills that aren’t scuba skills as well.
I have been lucky to have some incredible women join me on my journey. I learnt to dive with my sister. I have some great friends within the club and we all have each others back. We’re scuba divers, we look out for our buddies!
The water is an incredible place, and it covers so much of our world, and with scuba diving so much more is available to explore. The calmness that the water gives is very freeing. Women are making giant strides in scuba diving, and we all just want to support each other and welcome more women into this marvellous world.
Eunice’s thoughts on why scuba diving is a sport women should embrace:
Women and men dive alongside each other on equal standing, and we respect each individual as divers for our skill, knowledge and contribution to the club. There is no men’s or women’s teams; we are all divers.
Diving is elegant and peaceful. It requires awareness of your surroundings, balance and sensitivity to what your body is doing.
To dive with grace is to have good buoyancy control and air usage which require skill, not strength. Underwater there is no gender divide.
Divers are encouraged to help each other and be prepared to accept help. There is a culture of knowledge sharing and assistance in diving. We trust and teach each other.
For myself I have gained confidence in setting up and maintaining kit. I even appreciate having to move the tanks - it builds strength and bone density.
Personally I love to research and teach the technical side. And being a yoga teacher I am obsessed with breathing techniques and can contribute to the club by sharing how these techniques can benefit diver’s air usage.
I’d encourage any woman to give diving a go. It’s a non competitive sport that you can participate in on equal terms. There is no limit on what you can learn or how far you can progress.
This international women’s day we’d like to encourage more women to take part in scuba diving, and join an encouraging community of divers who love being underwater.
If you make a try dive booking with us by the end of March, women will receive a £5 discount so a try dive would cost £15. You only need to make the booking before the end of the month (31st March)
Just get in touch with us, by either dropping us a message here, or e-mailing [email protected]
Come join us underwater, it’s a wonderful place to be!
How scuba diving is empowering Sheena:
I joined Stowe Scuba club in January 2022. I was travelling to Australia later that year and wanted to be able to dive, with confidence and some ability, at the Great Barrier Reef. I achieved my target getting my Ocean Diver qualification ready for my trip.
I have always played team sports and kept fit so to find a sport that could fill that gap was important to me. I have continued to dive regularly with the club and really enjoy it. I do not know if all diving clubs are like Stowe or if I’ve just been lucky but this new pursuit has empowered me to want to achieve and improve in this sport.
Scuba diving allows me to continually hone my skills and learn new ones in a controlled (and safe) place. The nature of diving encourages everyone to share ideas, work together and give feedback to each other in an environment that respects and values individuals. I am encouraged to take control of my diving and what I want to achieve from it with training/practice available each dive. Instructors provide constructive feedback and my input is encouraged.
Scuba diving is pushing me to improve and to learn new skills. I am currently a Sports Diver and every dive whilst not always as successful as I may want is satisfying. Sometimes I am out of my comfort zone, but by being empowered I feel I can achieve my goals and objectives and I am motivated to do so.
Already a qualified diver, you are more than welcome to dive with us as well! We are a friendly bunch who love to be underwater and are always on the look out for new buddies!
We’ve a new Learn to Dive information leaflet. We run a regular programme of diver training available for the Buckingham area. You can drop us a message here, see our website or e-mail us if you have any questions or are interested in signing up to learn to scuba dive!
Want to try something new? Scuba diving could be the thing for you! There is still time to sign up for our March course start. Just drop us a message if you are interested or would like some more information.
A couple of weeks until our club AGM (and thus another club curry night.) Club members please let us know if you are coming so we can book you a seat!
Our summer trips are busy being planned by the team. In June we’re off to the Dorset coast for a long weekends diving with something for everyone!
We run diving all year around with more coastal trips during the summer season.
Drop us a message if you are interested in learning to dive, or if you are already qualified and want to dive more regularly in the marvellous British waters (we run international trips too!)
