Open to anyone with cancer, who has completed treatment, is in the middle of treatment, or wants to prehab ready for surgery/treatment - or just get some fresh air.

Some great information from Dr Liz O'Riordan about the benefits of exercise and how it can help reduce risk of recurrence.
The 5kmyourway event helps with the cardio part of the recommendations.
If you want/need some advice on how to go about the strength/resistance part, physios Anna Clayton, Hayley Jarvill and Angela Jiggins, alongside consultant Liz and retired nurse /former patient Jill Mayhew will be at the events over the year to offer additional support and guidance to explore what might work well for you to reach the recommendations for exercise.
The Breast Friends CIC group also meet for some great health walks with loads of support at other times - check their pages for details.
Next event - last Saturday in March at Nowton Park 8.45am for a 9am start. ๐
This is something we often hear from patients who have completed their treatment.
At Bury Physiotherapy Health and Wellbeing Clinic and Gym you can access the My Wish Charity sponsored Mindful Movement class run by Specialist Physiotherapist Erica Dyson (Friday 3.30-4/10pm). The first 6 sessions are free.
Personal trainer Ben Durham has had personal experience of cancer treatment and can work through the best way to return to activity and exercise that suits your fitness levels/work/home life commitments.
More widely, additional support can be found through Bury St Edmunds 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer where the Breast friends support group linktr.ee/breastfriends also provide support and Macmillan Physiotherapist Angela Jiggins, who can be found at West Suffolk Hospital Macmillan Unit (you can be referred via your CNS/Oncologist, or self refer).

The next 5kmyourway will be Saturday 30th March at Nowton Park meeting 8.45am by the cafe.
The impact of cancer doesnโt just end after treatment.
โAfter chemo, I lost my identity, my routine, and my self-esteem. I was sent back into the normal world, not being sick, but still feeling unwell. I couldnโt go back to work because of fatigue, but I no longer had the routine of treatment to drive me through the weeks. I also developed a heightened awareness of my body, reporting any little concern to my Oncology Physio and still fearing something has been missed.
โI used the PINC & STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation funding to support me initially with individual Physio sessions and then I joined a small group targeted class.
My Physio listened and supported me through this turbulent time...And, with time, hair growth, and the friendships through these classes I have reclaimed my identity and know I am not alone in my journey."

New Online Workshop - Sign up Now!
๐ชWe are teaming up with Sarah from Get Me Back to host an online Strength Training Workshop!
๐ The workshop is taking place via Zoom on Thursday 15th June at 6:30pm.
๐ A message from Sarah:
Strength training can have huge benefits to those recovering from cancer to help rebuild muscle, improve bone density and joint strength. It is helpful alongside cardiovascular exercise to improve treatment side effects, cancer-related fatigue and mental and physical health. But strength training is often an area of exercise those recovering from cancer can find hard to get started with.
This session aims to demonstrate the principles movements of strength training, how they support every day movement, and how to progress your training.
This session is open to anyone who is approved to exercise by their oncology team, who wants to understand the best way to approach strength/ resistance training after cancer.
โPlease note you will be required to complete a disclaimer form before taking part in the session.
